The California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) works in partnership with consumers and other stakeholders to provide services and advocacy resulting in employment, independent living, and equality for individuals with disabilities.
DOR administers the largest vocational rehabilitation and independent living programs in the country. Vocational rehabilitation services are designed to help job seekers with disabilities obtain competitive employment in integrated work settings. Independent living services may include peer support, skill development, systems advocacy, referrals, assistive technology services, transition services, housing assistance, and personal assistance services.
FUHSD works with the Department of Rehabilitation through its Transition Partnership Program (TPP) to support students in their journey through, and beyond, high school. Through TPP, the Job Developers help prepare the students for work and education. That can include finding a job, preparing for college or identifying a trade you would like to learn.
Once a student has signed up for services through the Fremont Union High School District TPP, the services are for life through Department of Rehabilitation.
Through our partnership with Department of Rehabilitation, FUHSD is able to provide a myriad of services that fall under one of the 5 following categories:
Job Exploration
Workplace Readiness
Work-Based Learning
Self-Advocacy
Post-Secondary Counseling
DOR Student Services are activities that support students in the exploration and preparation for the world of work. Services are based on student interests - students can try a bunch of activities, or just a few.
If this sounds interesting to you:
Are you interested in exploring the world of work?
Do you wonder what it takes to be successful in a job?
Would you like to get some work experience?
Are you curious about options for school after you graduate?
Do you want your services to start right away?
If you answered yes, DOR Student Services could be right for you!
To get DOR Student Services:
You must be a student (you need to be enrolled in school).
You're between the ages of 16 and 21 (including 16 and 21).
At least one of these options is true:
You have a 504 Plan.
You have an IEP.
You will want to connect to the Job Developer associated with your site to discuss DOR student services. This might happen through one of your classes, or as a referral through one of your teachers. If you decide to enroll in the student services, the Job Developer will provide you with the paperwork.
