The Barton MakerSpace runs on a system of certifications, internally known as the belt board. Each activity/machine in the MakerSpace has a series of lessons that you need to follow in order to learn how to use the equipment in order to perform correct operations, regardless of prior experience. Think of this process as earning certificates to track your progress as you master each task. As you complete the lessons, or belts, you progress in rank and learned skills until you achieve a "black belt," which designates that have you have mastered the skills needed to perform the activity of your choice and that you are certified for independent use. Whether you have experience or not, this space is designed for everyone to be able to follow and perform our certifications in order to become masters of the equipment. In order to be independent with the equipment in the MakerSpace, you MUST have a black belt. For more in depth information on our system, please view the video below!
