The Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) is organized to promote, encourage participation in and maintain small school bands in the state of Texas. The organization maintains cooperative relationships with other agencies and organizations which have as their purpose the development of music education in Texas public schools. 

Every year, ATSSB hosts auditions for the All-Region Band(s) in each region of Texas, both at the high school and middle school levels. Hundreds of students from each middle school in Region 6 show up to the auditions in hopes of making it to one of these two bands. The audition material consists of 2 of 8 scales, the chromatic scale, and two etudes that push the musical limits of the auditionees. Out of hundreds, a small number of students are selected for each instrument. The FSMS Panther Band has had numerous students place into the prestigious ATSSB Region 6 MS All-Region Bands in the past!
