Absolutely! The district is purchasing a free gator for students, but we will work with your child to help ensure they wear their mask as you request. We want your child to be safe, but also to have some normalcy. 80% of families did not want to see mandatory mask in the surveys we sent out.
If your child contracts COVID or has been exposed and quarantined, they will continue instruction virtually. This will count the same as being present in school so they will not be counted absent as long as they are participating daily in online instruction.
A substitute teacher with the support of the regular teacher if able on CANVAS.
No, it is not recommended by TEA to do daily temperature checks. However, we will perform frequent temperature checks to check anyone with symptoms.
No, those students will purchase the same supplies.

YES
Yes, as long as they come to the classes required for that program and meet all the requirements for grades and attendance we will allow a hybrid program for students to participate.
The Texas Education Agency is allowing districts to provide virtual instruction for families who choose to keep their children home during this time. Fruitvale ISD is working extremely hard to provide a robust, exciting virtual school experience for students at home. Although, we believe that in person instruction is the best way to educate students with our highly qualified teaching staff in person, we are working to improve the virtual experience for our families who choose this option.
This experience will look different than the spring semester because these students will be kept on track with in person students receiving side by side instruction, grading and support from the virtual instructor and from the lessons created and graded by their on campus teachers in their home room classes.
Fruitvale ISD will be offering hotspot scholarships to families, but we will be awaiting the arrival of these devices from the Texas Education Agency. Currently, there is not a timeline for arrival, but we will notify families who qualify as soon as these become available to the districts to disperse. There is not an option for paper copies for virtual instruction so each family participating will have to be able to access virtual instruction from home every day. If your child does not have wifi at home and the district does not receive the hot spot devices, the child will have to go to a location away from home where there is free wifi available such as libraries, restaurants, or our school district parking lot to access their virtual instruction every day. The other option is to have students come to in person school until we have wifi hotspots available to provide your family at home. This will give your child the opportunity to come on campus and receive instruction in CANVAS, the new learning management system, from their home room teacher before choosing to go home and work in the program online. When hotspots arrive, they will also only be able to be used for virtual instruction on the school district device that is tracked by GoGuardian. There is no option for paper packets at home or pick up, the instruction offered at home is virtual with a daily requirement for participation.
Virtual students will be provided chrome devices by our Fruitvale ISD Virtual Home Learning Instructor, Brittany Owens during our Meet the Teacher events on campus or through a scheduled in person conference. Each family can pick up a chrome device that is loaded with our goguardian program that tracks sites the student is accessing with the device. The chromebooks are to be utilized for school work only.
Students will be able to on a daily basis, to zoom into their home room or advisory classes to interact with the students at school and their home room teacher. This will be a scheduled 20-30 minute time each day to gain social interaction as they are receiving some in person instruction. Students will then be able to access the content for each class through CANVAS, where all of the content for their classes will be available to them. This will make it easier for students and families to find and complete all assignments. The students will also be provided a time each day to interact with a certified counselor in the district to help with any social or emotional needs the student has concerns with while being away from school.
Because the Texas Education Agency is requiring districts to maintain the same grading assignments for in person and virtual school students, virtual students will be asked to come up on some Saturdays to meet with the virtual instructor to be assessed for progress, take exams, receive in person support and more. In order to maintain the integrity of the grading system for all students, virtual students will need to be able to come up at times to complete these activities at school in order to receive credit.
Attendance is the same as in person school in that students will have to complete some activities each day in order to be counted present, and truancy does apply virtually so attendance in some way during the day is required to be shown. There are multiple options to show attendance, and assignments may be completed any time during the day. Students will not be required to be logged in all day to classrooms to get credit at Fruitvale ISD. They will go into CANVAS complete work when time allows in family schedules, but it must happen each day to be counted present.
Our core content highly qualified teachers will also be videoing their instruction at times in class and uploading the videos for virtual students to get the same instruction as in class students just a day or two behind them. This will help students stay on track with classes. These will not be full class periods, just the instructional pieces that our teachers want our students to receive at home.
Students working at home will be allowed to come pick up meals once a day for breakfast and lunches on campus, there are no deliveries for meals.
We know there are multiple questions and we want to be able to share what is correct information with families, please feel free to schedule a meeting with our staff to answer questions or provide additional support.
Students will not be logging in virtually to their home room classrooms and staying in CANVAS for their entire day. Students will not be required to complete all assignments for that day, but they have to make progress to be counted in attendance. They will be graded and have due dates for their assignments the same as regular students though, so it will depend on the student how long the work will take them each day. Virtual school will be a regular school curriculum with new instruction, not review material.
You are receiving the benefit of highly qualified teachers in each specific grade level and subject area for your child who is creating lessons for your specific child. You are receiving a highly certified virtual teacher who is checking in with your child to ensure progress and provide needed support and connections. You will receive a chrome device and if needed when they arrive a hot spot for connecting to your virtual learning. Your child will be able to participate and communicate with their home room teacher and class at least once daily and have daily access to counseling services. Virtual students will also receive the benefits of all the high quality curriculum programs provided by Fruitvale ISD. Dual credit students will receive courses at no cost to their families, and students will be able to receive a free breakfast and lunch daily if they choose to pick up meals. The amount of support for your child will be valuable, and then your child will be kept on track with other students in class as much as possible so they don’t fall further behind in person school students. Students from virtual school may transition right back into in person school seamlessly, whereas homeschool students have testing requirements to complete for the district to determine what grade level to place them in if they have not been in an accredited by the TEA school district. If you have questions in this area please contact the district.
