In third grade, we use the Reader’s Workshop model to help students develop as independent readers and lifelong learners. Third grade is an exciting year in which students transition from learning to read to reading to learn. This approach includes a mix of mini-lessons, small group work, independent reading, one-on-one conferences, and read-alouds. In Reader’s Workshop, students will explore a variety of genres, build their reading stamina, and learn specific reading strategies. Teachers model all strategies so students can apply them independently.
Using Reader’s Workshop allows each child to develop skills at their own pace, gain confidence, and foster a lifelong love of reading.📘
