Mixed-Media Sketchbook
This trimester, you will build your skills in a visual journal, and I highly recommend purchasing a sketchbook! A "mixed-media" sketchbook with a hard cover and a bound or spiral binding is ideal, as we will experiment with paint, collage, printmaking, and other media. A regular drawing pad may not hold up as well and could fall apart with frequent use. You can find examples of suitable sketchbooks linked above.
Recycled Hard-Cover Book
Yes, with words and everything! Try something new, AND reduce, recycle, and reuse at the same time! Your work can be completed on the pages of an old book. Be sure to ask permission from the book owner BEFORE you decide to use it for class. A larger size is recommended (9"x6" or larger)
Dedicated Art Folder ( 9"x12")
If purchasing a sketchbook or finding an old book isn't possible, that's okay! A large, dedicated art folder (9"x12") can store all the work completed throughout the trimester, and you can work on paper supplied in the art room. Keeping all artwork is crucial, as you will be graded on your body of work at the mid-term and final days of the trimester. You must redo the assignment to earn credit if artwork is lost before it is graded.
Visual Journal Prompts
Consider a series of collages as your final showcase artwork.
Use the elements and principles to create a focal point in your journal entry (and all of your artwork!)
