2. Requirements:
Basic Layout Ideas:
Choose one artist and one artwork they created.
You will create a visual journal page or layout that clearly shows your research and your own thinking.
Your page must include:
Artist’s Name
Art Movement the artist is connected to
Description of what is happening in the artwork:
SEE: Describe what you notice. What objects, colors, textures, or details stand out? What’s in the background? Did you discover anything surprising when you looked more closely?
THINK: What thoughts or interpretations come up for you? Does it connect to your own life or artwork in any way?
WONDER: What questions do you have about the artist’s choices, techniques, or meaning? How might this artwork influence your own?
Example (SEE):
“I see a deep blue sky that makes the bright orange sun stand out as the emphasis of the painting. The artist used complementary colors (blue and orange), which creates strong contrast.”
3 - Plan your layout/composition in a thumbnail sketch
Where will your title go? The artwork? Your see/think/wonder? What other things can you add to make your one-pager more interesting? Brainstorm your layout ideas through a small sketch to see which will be the best set-up for your final work.
Original layout designs might include a cartoon version of the artist, windows that open to explain your thoughts behind the artwork, or other unexpected details that create a WOW-factor.
