Library Overview
FAE Library Mission
In the library we support the Frontier Academy mission.
Frontier Academy builds leadership in all students by:
- Developing good character
- Establishing a strong educational foundation
- Supporting diverse extracurricular opportunities
- Serving our entire community
We promote the development of good character by focusing on Social Emotional Learning in the library. Our lessons include read alouds and instruction aligned with our Second Step Program to support students' skills for learning, emotion management, empathy/kindness, and problem-solving.
We believe reading is key to establishing a strong educational foundation. Reading develops critical thinking skills, expands vocabulary, enhances comprehension abilities, fosters imagination, and provides exposure to diverse perspectives.
Our library provides students with diverse extracurricular opportunities including participation in The Battle of the Books and Colorado Children's Book Awards.
Our library serves our community by supporting family literacy. We donate books to families, provide access to free book resources, and host a Family Literacy Night to foster a love of reading and learning within families.

FAE Library Collection Management
Our library development plan follows District 6 Guidelines.
We strive to develop a balanced and inclusive collection that aligns with our school's mission and school curriculum; meets the needs and interest of all students; and inspires our students to become lifelong readers! Our collection is built with guidance from professional resources, along with recommendations from students, teachers, and families. If you have a book that you would like to add to our collection, please email Mrs. Granrud at granrudm@frontieracademy.net.
Our process for removal of library materials follows CREW: A Weeding Method for Modern Libraries. According to the CREW method there are six major benefits of wedding the collection.
You save space. We need library shelf space to add new books to our collection.
You save time. Crowded shelves makes it difficult for students and staff to find books.
You make the collection more appealing. We want your students to check out books that are clean and damage free.
You will enhance your library's reputation. We strive to have a collection that is up-to-date and reliable.
You will keep up with collection needs. We want to quickly replace the books that are weeded.
You have constant feedback on the collection's strengths and weaknesses. We want to be know about our collection to help with future planning.
Weeded library materials are first considered for donation during our annual "Back To School Night" in August. Materials remaining after "Back To School Night" are added to our April Book Swap event, donated to the Evans Police Department Community Outreach program, or used by our Secondary School Art department. Materials that are not acceptable for donation are recycled or discarded.
If you have any questions about our collection development or weeding policies, please email Mrs. Granrud at granrudm@frontieracademy.net.
