The life of seniors is important before adulthood because they need to lock in and get all their work done. Seniors might think once they get out of school and become an adult it will be amazing, but they only think that because they are not out of high school. When they become adults, they will wish they could go back to school, because adulthood is stressful and exhausting as they have to get a job, have good lifestyle habits, pay bills, and they never get time to themselves. I believe that the school should take it easy on seniors because that's when students have the most responsibilities and duties; seniors always try to make the last of their senior year and have a good time. Who can blame them? If I were them, I would be terrified to be an adult. There's a quote from a movie called He’s All That that really stood out to me: “High school is just a bunch of scared people pretending they’re not.”
Ulisses Alvarez wants to be a cop because it's fun. Carson Smith wants to be a welder because he would get a lot of money. Ernesto Fuentes wants to be in business administration because he wants to help out with business one day, and he doesn't want to rely on people. He was always into business and his grandpa told him he would get into business one day. Azenet Perez wants to be a chiropractor because it's cool and she’s seen Youtube videos on it.
Tayte Watkins is a senior at Fall River this year. When Tayte walked into the room, I was nervous because I thought it was someone else but the second I saw Tayte my nervousness went away because Tayte is probably one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet and everyone in the Fall River High School loves her. She and I have been good friends for a while. When I was asking Tayte the questions, she didn’t seem nervous or uncomfortable at all because she’s used to me. “Being a senior in Fall River High School is probably the best experience we can have in school because they have the most fun, but some people take their senior year very seriously and the rest don’t. It doesn’t matter what they do outside of school, but when they're in school they focus a lot and are very concentrated in their work and tests because they know if they want to get into college they need to receive good grades and study hard.”
The Fall River High School soccer team is a family and friends event that fans go to see their children and friends play. Even if they win or lose, the team and coach gather together to comfort and support each other and congratulate for trying their best. No matter if the game is a loss, to them it always feels like a win.
On October 1st 2026, I got to go to the soccer game and experience meeting the players, talking to soccer fans, and watching the game. During the first half, I was talking with friends. Mr. Howes came up to me on his bike. He said, “What are you doing?”
I said, “I’m covering the game.”
“What’s the score?” Mr. Howes asked.
“Uh… no idea.”
“Did you use your press pass to get in here?”
“...yes?”
“GET TO WORK!!!”
I left my friends and went to the other side of the field to take photos. It seemed to me that Fall River and Tulelake didn’t like each other; Tulelake was trash talking big time. They kept pushing and shoving each other.
I was supposed to interview the players and take photos of them, and I got some good ones, but I couldn’t interview the players because they were really busy playing. I was going to interview them after the game, but they all just left. I should have asked them if they had a minute for an interview, but I was too nervous and shy.
They knew what they were doing; they started up with a lineup, but by the time of the second half, it was 1-1, and Fall River was struggling with getting that next goal, but it was still tied at the end of the time. They needed to settle the tie with penalty kicks. Raul Iniguez kicked, but the goalie was too far into the net, and they had to redo the kick. Raul made it! Next, Colby Ibarra kicked one in, and everyone cheered! (Except Tulelake; they looked disappointed.) Unfortunately, Tulelake got three in, and Fall River was left in despair. I was quite disappointed, but I still wanted to interview. They were mad that they lost, and they just all left while I stood there with my notebook and my disappointment and no interview. Next time, we should both do better.
Comfort in a Jersey
In my opinion, the Fall River High School soccer team really motivates and pushes each other to do their best and try hard with encouragement and determination. With the help of Fall River Bulldogs soccer coach Megan Young, the Bulldogs are making a strong effort to play and win games on and off the field. There is lots of companionship on the field and with the players. They like it when they go against the other teams because it gives them a chance to make new friends and look at the other players' strategies. Once the game is over, they go back to being regular teenage students, the same students who ate food off the ground but said it wasn’t them. I had the chance to see them play against Mount Shasta on September 17. Now, I don’t understand soccer very well, but when I was sitting in those stands watching, I saw Raul Iniguez hit the ball with his head and it made a loud “Thwak!!” I would never do that because it's not healthy, and if we hit it too hard it could cause a headache or worse a concussion. I think it was ridiculous how the soccer players had to wear shorts and a t-shirt in the rain and thunder, but I was also wearing shorts too, and no sweatshirt because I didn’t think it would rain. I don’t think it's a good idea to have the soccer games and volleyball games on the same day because all the volleyball players usually go to the soccer games, but they can’t if their game is the same day and time. I noticed the crowd at the soccer games hardly has any people, but at the volleyball game it has more people, and at the football games it’s always packed with people. I’ve noticed strangers that don’t even know any of the players go to the football games to watch them, but the soccer players' families only come... but some of their families don’t even come watch. In my opinion, I think it's messed up not to watch your own child’s game. My dad used to not come to any of my shows or games, and he always made an excuse about why he couldn’t. I always believed him, but the lying never ended good. Once again, I don’t know much about soccer, but I do know that the players try hard to be perfect but still don’t think they are. To me, they’re perfect and amazing players.
