Learning Target & Standards Reflection - Progress and reflections on standards and learning targets happen in a low or high tech fashion using either printed journal dividers (low tech) or digital trackers in Canvas (high tech) that students update as they receive formative feedback on each standard.
Life Goal Setting - Setting life goals can help students see a bigger picture. This English Language Arts (ELA) teacher guides students through setting their own life goal then refers back to the goal throughout the year.
Micro Goal Setting - Setting micro-goals can provide the foundation to improvement in skills over time. Middle school students improve their future ready skills by setting and revisiting micro-goals during projects using segments of rubrics provided by the New Tech Network.
Pre & Post Assessment Reflection - Staley Math & Science teachers give pre-assessment reflections to students to increase feelings of confidence and control by reminding them of the preparation work they have put in before taking the assessment. They later provide students with another opportunity to reflect after their assessment.
Rubric Based Reflection - In Frisco ISD, World Languages classes use a common rubric. Following each recorded Interpersonal or Presentational assessment, American Sign Language (ASL) teacher, Jamie Gillespy's students complete a self assessment while she completes her own evaluation of their work. Students then meet individually with the teacher to compare their evaluations and decide on a score.
SEL Check-ins & Goal Setting - Biology teachers at Lone Star High School use social emotional check-ins with their students daily. Teachers read through every submission and use the feedback to guide classroom, teacher table, and individual conversations. Throughout the year, "friend circle time" becomes a favorite classroom activity!
Test Correction Reflection - Students self-reflect on their recent assessment using a correction document. Students complete the table showing which questions they got right or wrong, reflect on their results, rework incorrect answers, and set a plan for future learning.
Unit-Long Reflection and Goal Setting - After each assessment (formative and summative), students add to their unit-long reflection and goal setting document. The document tracks standards covered on each assessment throughout the unit. District selected Power Standards are listed separately on the document for additional focus. Several reflection questions are answered at the end of the unit.
Weekly Grade Checks & Goal Setting - Goal setting and reflection helps students to be engaged in their learning process. Middle School Academy Connect classes have students complete weekly grade checks. Using the data, students reflect upon their progress and create weekly goals for success.
Whole School Student Goal Setting - Mastery-oriented goals give students the opportunity to focus on learning standards and their own growth. Administrators, counselors, and instructional coaches at Staley Middle School meet with all students toward the start, middle, and end of the year to complete goal setting and reflections.
Work Ethic Reflection - In a self-paced course, students complete checkpoint reflections with a focus on work ethics and habits. Feedback gained through the survey informs class and individual discussions. The survey is also designed to give students suggestions on ways to improve their skills.
