"Speech sound disorders" is the term that refers to the difficulty an individual may experience with producing sound, motor production, individual speech sound production and speech segments. Two common speech disorders are articulation disorder and phonological disorder. An articulation disorder refers to incorrect production of individual speech sounds. A phonological disorder focuses on predictable, rule-based errors (e.g., fronting, stopping, and final consonant deletion) that affect more than one sound. There are various ways to help your child with addressing articulation concerns:
Read with your child focusing on their target sounds
Find and name everyday items including the target sound
Play board games/card games (naming pictures, requesting items with good speech sound production, etc)
Make a list of words containing target sounds
Engage your child in conversation about their favorite movie, book, hobbies, etc ensuring to include the target sound
