Extracurriculars & Athletics
Extracurriculars and athletics are important parts of high school life. You can dive deeper into an interest, meet new people, and attend exciting events. Below is some information about popular extracurriculars with LPS students.
Mock Trial
Many LPS students are part of our award-winning Mock Trial team. They are the defending State Champions and recently represented New Jersey at the Mock Trial National Competition in Athens, Georgia. The team is coached by Ms. Richmond and Ms. Villareal (CNHS teachers), as well as Mr. William Visone (LPS alumnus and Monmouth County Prosecutor).
Junior State of America
Participants learn how to engage civilly in political discourse. They cultivate democratic leadership skills, challenge one another to think critically, advocate their own opinions, develop respect for opposing views, and learn to rise above self-interest to promote the public good. As a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, JSA is committed to developing a diverse, cross-section of young leaders for a democratic society.
Athletics
Balancing athletics and academics is definitely doable as an LPS student. Many are involved in junior varsity and varsity sports while simultaneously keeping up a competitive GPA. When it comes to balancing the two, it's all about time management. Nearly every varsity sports team features a member of LPS.
Cougar Theatre Company (Drama Club)
Our Basie Award-winning Cougar Theatre Company produces two major productions each year: a spring musical and fall play. Below, Regan R. gives an overview of her "second home."

Academic Decathlon
Academic Decathlon hosts monthly "Lunch Jeopardy" competitions. Members of this club also attend semi-monthly academic competitions held at local high schools, including BioTech and MAST. Perhaps you've even joined Academic Decathlon at their annual marquee event: a student-run springtime Jeopardy Bowl competition held for middle schoolers.
