Selecting the IB Program

Requirements for Participation

Although the program is a rigorous one, demanding commitment and perseverance, there is no entrance exam or application.

As the International Baccalaureate Organization explains, "prior academic success is less an indicator of ability to earn the diploma than are a student’s determination to do his or her best, willingness to be organized in order to complete the work while leading a full, balanced life, and a strong commitment to learning in and beyond the classroom."

We seek students who strive for the qualities in the IB Learner Profile.  These are the most important indicators for success in the program. Note that students must complete Algebra 2 prior to the start of the junior year in order to take IB math courses.

To acknowledge the rigor of the program, students and their parents/guardians sign a Candidate Agreement Form when registering for their junior classes, which is available in Genesis for IB students.  This consent form ensures all stakeholders understand the nature of the commitment prior to beginning the two-year program.

Eligible Students

Freehold Township High School students are eligible.

Students in the Class of 2028 whose home school is Colts Neck, Freehold, Manalapan, and Marlboro may be able to participate in the FTHS IB Program, if it is not at capacity.

Students enrolled in one of the FRHSD Magnet Programs CANNOT transfer into the IB Diploma Programme.  This is in alignment with district policy as outlined in the Magnet Program Letter of Intent.

Expressing interest in the IB Diploma Programme at Freehold Township is easy.  Complete the Magnet Program application (using the Magnet Program tab from the frhsd.com page) and indicate your interest on that application.
