Music courses meet the 5 credits for Visual & Performing arts required for graduation in NJ.

This course is open to all high school students with a basic playing ability. Band members develop individual and group performance skills and are expected to participate in rehearsals, the concert season, and the marching band during the marching season.
BAND 2 - 4 - all levels
5 Credits, Grades 10 - 12Prerequisite: At least one year of Band experience in high school or successful audition for the instructorBand members develop individual and group performance skills and are expected to participate in rehearsals, the concert season, and the marching band during the marching season. Honors Requirements: Students will perform at an advanced level typical of Region II and All-State Band. Students may elect to audition for All-State Band and are expected to participate in solo recitals, rehearsals, the concert season, and the marching band during marching season.
5 Credits, Grades 9 - 12This class is open to anyone with an interest in learning how to improve their voice, read music, and develop performance skills. All students will learn proper vocal technique, music terminology, and perform a wide range of music. No previous experience is required. Students are expected to participate in solo recitals, rehearsals, and the concert season.
CHORUS 2 - 4 - all levels
5 Credits, Grades 10 - 12Prerequisite: At least one year of Chorus experience in high school or successful audition for the instructorAll students will learn proper vocal technique, music terminology, and perform a wide range of music. Honors Requirements: Students will perform at an advanced level typical of Region II and All-State Chorus. Enhance your knowledge of vocal technique/interpretation, musical notation/ terminology, sight-singing, rhythms, diction, and musical styles. Emphasis is placed on musicality and musicianship relating to choral performance and the individual as a singer and concert performer. Students may elect to audition for All-State Chorus and are expected to participate in solo recitals, rehearsals, and the concert season.
5 Credits, Grades 9 - 12Learn musical keyboard techniques on both electronic type keyboards and traditional pianos. This course is for all levels of ability and may be taken nonconsecutive.
5 Credits, Grades 9 - 12Prerequisite: Ability to read basic musical notationThis course offers a progressive study of writing and composing music. Skill development includes identifying, describing, analyzing, and reading music, and listening to sounds. Musical achievement focuses on note reading, terminology, elementary sight singing, ear training, melodic and harmonic diction and short composition.
MUSIC THEORY 2 - 4 - all levels
5 Credits, Grades 10 - 12Prerequisite: Enrollment in an ensemble class (Band 1-4/Chorus 1-4) or departmental recommendationThis course is for advanced, serious, highly motivated students who intend to study music after high school. This class may be taken in consecutive or nonconsecutive years.
2.5 Credits, Grades 9 - 12This course offers students an overview of the evolution of music from ragtime through current popular trends. Some artists studied include Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Duke Ellington, Chubby Checker, Little Richard, and more.
2.5 Credits, Grades 9 - 12Students continue the exploration of popular music styles and artists, and the impact of musical trends on society. Some topics for discussion include the effect of war, cultural change, and other events that impact the general progression of music. Artists studied include artists such as the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, and the Rolling Stones to name a few.
