Most Chromebook issues are easily resolved by holding the power button down for 30 seconds and restarting the Chromebook!

Hard Reset Your Chromebook

To fix most Chromebook problems you might need to reset your Chromebook hardware (HARD RESET). You can try a hard reset if you are having issues with Internet connectivity, frozen screens, sound, and keyboard/touchpad issues.

Reset Browser

You can restore your browser settings in Chrome at any time. You might need to do this if apps or extensions you installed changed your settings without your knowledge. Your saved bookmarks and passwords won't be cleared or changed.

Update The Chrome Browser

If websites or applications are not working properly, check for Chrome Updates. Your Chromebook automatically checks for and downloads updates when connected to Wi-Fi or Ethernet. But the Chromebook has to Restart for updates to get applied. Sometimes the update has already been downloaded and you just need to restart. Follow these steps to Update Your Chromebook.

Wipe the Device (Power Wash)

If resetting your Chromebook, clearing the history or resetting the Chrome browser failed to resolve your issue, try wiping your device. Keep in mind, wiping the device will clear all locally stored data on the device, so any pictures, documents, etc you have stored will be erased. This will not affect anything in your Google Drive.

Rotated home screen

  • CTRL + SHIFT + REFRESH will rotate the entire screen by 90 degrees each time it is processed.

Black Screen

  • Make sure Chromebook is plugged in.

  • Increase screen Brightness.

  • Press & Hold Power button for 10 seconds.

  • Press Power & Refresh button together.

Chromebook crashes or freezes

  • Turn off your Chromebook, then turn it back on.

  • Close all your apps and browser windows.

  • If a specific tab in your browser causes your Chromebook to crash or freeze, hard refresh the page: Ctrl + Shift + r.

  • If you've installed any new apps or extensions recently, uninstall them.

  • Reset your Chromebook.

"Aw, snap!" message

  • Reload page.

  • Check Wi-Fi connection.

  • Close other tabs or extensions.

  • Open Task Manager (Shift + ESC)

  • Turn off Extensions.

OS is lost or missing

Please submit a Help Desk Request. The operating system will need to be installed on the device.

battery won't charge

First, check that:

  • The charger and adapter cables are completely plugged in, both to Chromebook and the wall.

  • The power outlet is working.

If your Chromebook still won't charge:

  • Unplug your charger from the wall and your Chromebook.

  • Plug your charger back in to your Chromebook, then the wall.

  • Charge the device for at least 30 minutes.

If battery still won't charge, Reset Your Chromebook.

camera is not working

If your camera isn't working, or if you see a message that says "No Camera Found":

  • Turn off your Chromebook, then turn in back on.

  • Try using the camera in another app. If it works in that app, uninstall the app where it doesn't work, then reinstall it.

  • Reset your Chromebook.

sound does not work

  • Make sure sound isn't muted:

    • At the bottom right, select the time.

    • Adjust the volume using the slider.

  • Change the sound input or output:

    • At the bottom right, select the time.

    • Next to the volume slider, select the Right arrow .

    • Change where sound comes from (output) or where you speak into (input).

  • Unplug audio devices (like headphones or speakers) from your Chromebook.

  • Reset your Chromebook.

touchpad is not working

If your touchpad stops working, try these steps:

  • Make sure there is no dust or dirt on the touchpad.

  • Press the Esc key several times.

  • Drumroll your fingers on the touchpad for ten seconds.

  • Turn your Chromebook off, then back on again.

  • Reset your Chromebook.
