Meet Mrs. Sugar

I am Carissa Sugar and this is my 8th year as the music teacher at Freetown Elementary School! I also serve as the Curriculum Leader for K-5 Unified Arts (Music, Physical Education, Art, and Library) district wide. I was born and raised in Western New York where my love of music started from the very beginning of my life! From listening and performing music at home, to being inspired by countless music teachers during my education, I always knew I was meant to be a music teacher! I received my Bachelor's degree in Music Education from SUNY Fredonia where I studied voice and general/choral music. I went on to receive my Master's in Education from the University at Buffalo where my researched centered around early childhood music philosophy. I have post graduate work in gifted and talented instruction as well. I taught for 1 year in Buffalo, NY before finding Freetown Elementary and relocating to Massachusetts! I happily reside on the outskirts of Boston with my husband, Rob and baby girl, Rosie.

It is my deep passion for teaching that motivates me everyday. Nothing fulfills me more than guiding the music learning of young students. I always tell people... I never chose to be a teacher, being a teacher is just simply who I am. I am committed to providing the best possible education for our students in every aspect. By creating deep connections, my hope to inspire students to be the best they can be, not just in music, but all areas of life. I am so honored to be a small part of your child's "life village" and take deep pride in my role of forever being their elementary music teacher.
