Second Grade
Singing
- Students will sing songs in varying tonalities and meters.
- Students will sing songs from other cultures and varied genres.
- Students will sing in groups as well as independently.
Playing Instruments
- Students will continue to develop motor skills and coordination will be through the use of music props specifically designed to aid in instrument readiness.
- Students will play both Un-pitched and Pitched Percussion Instruments including African Drums, xylophones, bells, and shakers.
Reading and Notation
- Students will continue with symbolic association of rhythm writing and reading.
- Students will participate in rhythm dictation.
Improvisation and Composition
- Students will explore improvising and creating both tonal and rhythm responses.
- Student will begin formal composition of rhythm patterns.
Critical Response
- Students will respond to music by describing how music makes them feel and explore what elements contribute to that.
- Students will explore expressive elements of music like dynamics and tempo.
