This project seeks to explore potential evidence of relict polygonal ground (RPGs), sometimes referred to as patterned ground, in New York. Prior to this research, RPGs have not been reported for New York. Recent research in other deglaciated landscapes, however, suggest that evidence of permafrost, or deep frost, conditions are common in states like Ohio, Indiana, Connecticut, Michigan, and Wisconsin (among others).
This research is designed to incorporate undergraduate students over the coming years.
