The Cattaraugus Creek Suspended Sediment and Landslide Mapping Project was initiated in 2022 as a partnership between the State University of New York at Fredonia, Department of Geology and Environmental Sciences, and the New York State Department of Environment Conservation (NYSDEC). The purpose of this project is two-fold: (i) provide information on soil erosion within the watershed to NYDEC to aid in their mission to provide maintenance of a healthy aquatic environment; and, (ii) provide opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience working on real-world problems. This project includes both GIS mapping and predictive modeling of soil loss and landslide trends and field-based stream measurements, especially suspended sediment loads.
Annual reports can be reviewed for on-going progress and results. Also, check out the Student Research section to see research posters prepared by student workers.
