Frederick County YMCA Head Start

We provide comprehensive education, social, health, and nutrition services to children and their families.

Beginning on May 1, 2012, the YMCA became the new grantee for the Federally funded Head Start program in Frederick County. We provide comprehensive education, social, health, and nutrition services to eligible three and four-year-old children and their families across Frederick County.

Children participate in appropriate educational experiences, field trips, nutritional meals, and health screenings. We also provide limited transportation services, referrals for disability, behavioral and other health needs, as well as school transition services. Family engagement in our program is encouraged and assistance is given in obtaining needed social services. If you or anyone you know could benefit from our Head Start program and can meet Federal eligibility guidelines, please call our Head Start office at (301) 378-9140.

We implement a Program Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) plan.  The plan focuses on  four core values (Responsibility, Caring, Safety, and Respect) using our program mascot of a Bee.  You may find reference to our BEE mascot when in our program or participating in virtual events.  Visit our Home School Connection page to learn more about PBIS and other activities at our centers that you can share with your family.
