As October comes to an end, several NT@G classes are beginning new content projects. Sci-For students are studying the Periodic Table of Elements in preparation to host a Chemistry Carnival in November for local fifth grade students.
NT @ G students are beginning their second content projects. In Sci-For, students will be collaborating with the Science Museum of Western Virginia to create atomic models. In Civics and Economics, students are taking on the roles of the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches to gain a deeper understanding of our national government. In math classes, students are exploring ratios and percentages in creative ways. Finally, in EDIT, students are using the online Revision Assistant program to improve their writing and beginning S.E. Hinton's novel The Outsiders.
NT @ G students have completed and presented their first content projects. In EDIT, students took on the role of travel writers and presented their World Travel research to a local travel agent. In the Fantastic Claims unit in Sci-For, students used the scientific method to test the claims made by companies about their products. In math classes, students created an autobiographical class number line. Civics students took on the role of colonial Americans and created newspapers about the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution.
New Tech Family Night on August 24, was a HUGE success! Thank you so much to all of the families that were able to attend. Students revealed the work they completed as part of their first project- Mission: Identity! Their challenge: "Are you who you say you are...and can you prove it?" Students collected quantitative and qualitative data about themselves including: Gardner's Multiple Intelligence, GRIT scale, physical stats, and growth vs. fixed mindset. We hope to see you for our next family night event- Back to School Night, September 7.
