Enrollment & Application Process
To participate in the FCPS Virtual Academy, students must be enrolled in Franklin County Public Schools. Virtual elementary students enroll at Rocky Mount Elementary, middle school students at Benjamin Franklin Middle School, and high school students at Franklin County High School.
Learning in the virtual environment is unique and very different from in-person courses. It requires a lot of independence and self motivation. Student success is most important, therefore there is an application process for participation. Please consider your child’s ability to work independently and online before submitting an application. Applications and eligibility are reviewed on a semester basis.
Students are only eligible to enroll in the Virtual Academy at a semester change (the beginning of the school year and at the end of first semester). In order to remain eligible for participation each semester, students must adhere to the Virtual Academy expectations.
To remain eligible for the FCPS Virtual Academy students must stay less than 10% behind pace in all of their courses, have a passing grade in all of their courses (59 or higher), and actively participate by completing assignments on time and communicating with their teachers as needed.
Parents and guardians who are interested in their child participating, can contact the Virtual Academy Administrator and have their information put on a “contact list” to receive an application when the window opens.
Multiple data points are considered when reviewing applications.

Once the applications are submitted and reviewed, the applicant will be notified if they are or are not eligible to participate in the Virtual Academy.
Course Enrollments
Elementary
Elementary students will take Math, Reading/English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Physical Education. As part of the new Virginia Literacy Program, elementary students will participate in daily synchronous English Language Arts (ELA) / Reading sessions. These live sessions are a vital component of the curriculum, designed to support a child’s reading and language development.
Session Details:
Grades 1, 3, 5: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Grades K, 2, 4: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Platform: Zoom
Frequency: Daily (Monday-Friday)
During these sessions, students will engage with their teacher and classmates in real-time. It is important that an adult is available to assist children during these sessions to ensure a smooth and productive learning experience.
