Meet the Teacher

About Ms. Ding

Hello! Welcome to the start of the new year. This is my 10th year at SGS. I went to Rutgers University as my undergraduate and the University of Maryland-Baltimore County for my graduate degree. I actually didn't plan on being a teacher. But, when I decided to help some of my classmates with their classwork, I realized that I really enjoyed teaching and helping others learn. I always liked school, and I do my best to make school a little enjoyable for everyone.

When I'm not at school, I play with my three-year old Chuahuahua mix, Chenchen. I like to post pictures of him in Google Classroom, especially when I throw him a party or when we go to the park. When I was in middle school, I used to play the violin in my school's orchestra and I was part of the Student Council. What clubs or activities do you participate in?

Some of you may not know this, but when I started teaching at SGS 10 years ago, I was actually a social studies teacher. You may have had an older sibling or a cousin who had me when I taught social studies. But, now, I'm teaching math. This is my 6th year teaching math.

I have to admit, when I was school, math was probably not one of my favorite subject in school. However, that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy math. I remember one of the things I liked doing when I was in middle school was doing the puzzles or playing math games. So, I try to include that in my teaching. There will be times when we will work on a project that will connect what we learned in class to something you can apply to the real world. Or we might play an escape room as a review.

This year, I hope to make math somewhat enjoyable for everyone. I won't try to convince you to make math your favorite class. But, I will do my best to make sure that math isn't scary or too hard.

Class Motto: Work hard, play hard.

I believe hard work always pays off in the end. So, this year, we will work hard during math class.  We will make math and school goals, and we will work together to make sure we reach those goals. However, I also believe that if you're going to work hard, you deserve to take breaks. That is why I try to incorporate games or breaks in my classes.

If we work hard all the time, your brain won't have time to recover. So, a break is good for your brain and your body. However, we can't take a break if we don't work hard in the first place, right? So, as long as everyone is working hard and we can accomplish what we need to do, we can earn a well deserved break.
