Late-to-Class Policy

Students have three minutes to get to class. Students are expected to walk straight to their next class. Students cannot go to their lockers or to the restroom in between classes. It is understandable if students will need more than three minutes, especially if they are coming from the front of the building. Therefore, if I know a student's previous class is on the other side of the building, I will always allow a 1-2 minute grace period to allow students to arrive to class without being marked late.

If students do arrive late, they are expected to have a pass. It is good practice for students to ask their teachers for a late pass if they know they will be late to my class. I will follow up with the teacher whenever there is a late pass written for the student.

For the first two week, I will not mark students late to my class. I understand that students will need time to adjust to their schedule and work out the route to their classes. I will give warnings when I will start to count lates. Students will receive consequences according to the cumulative late to class below.

Consequences:

I keep track on a clipboard whenever students arrive late to my class. At the end of each marking period, every student will have any accumulated tardies in my class wiped out. Therefore, every student will start with zero late at the beginning of every marking period.

In Class Expectations

Entering the classroom:

Students must wait outside the classroom until the teacher invites the students into the classroom. When students enter the classroom, they should head straight to their seats. Supplies and books will be distributed to their seat already.

Staying seated

Students are encouraged to stay in their seats. All supplies will be placed on their desk for easy access. However, if a student does need to get up, he or she must ask the teacher for permission. This is to ensure that everyone stays safe in the classroom.

Restroom:

Students may use the restroom when there is no instruction going on. He or she must ask the teacher for permission. The school is only allowing one student from each class at a time. Students must have a hallway pass from the teacher to use the restroom. If there are any medical reasons I must be aware of, please notify of such circumstances.

Technology

Students will be using Chromebooks in the classroom on a regular basis. Therefore it is important for students to charge their Chromebooks the night before school. I cannot promise or guarantee that students will be able to borrow a Chromebook or charge their Chromebook in class. If a student's Chromebook is not in class or if the battery dies, the student will be given paper copy of the assignment to complete. The district's Acceptable Technology Use will be strictly enforced. Classwize will be used to monitor student's Chromebook activities during the class period. If a student violates the ATU, the student will be given a warning. If the student violates it again, he or she may lose his or her Chromebook privilege in the classroom. I will provide a paper copy of the assignment to complete.

Cell phones are not allowed to be used in the classroom. Cell phones must be turned off or put on silent and put away. Cell phones should not be seen in the classroom. First offense will be a verbal warning. The second offense will be contact home. The third offense will be an Office write up.

Google Classroom:

Announcements and all assignments will be posted in Google Classroom. All students have been invited to the Google Classroom at the beginning of the school year. Parents are welcome to sign up with their personal email to receive weekly notifications about postings and announcements in Google Classroom.

Students are expected to check their Google Classroom every day. I create video lessons for most of the assignments. Therefore, it is important for students to watch the video lesson to complete the assignment. The videos will remain in Google Classroom for future reference for the rest of the school year.

Bookbags:

Bookbags should be placed on the back of the student's chair to avoid taking up space on the floor and creating potential accidents. Bags should not be on the student's lap, on the floor, or shoved in their desk. If the student cannot put their bags on the back of the chair, there will be a designated area for students to drop off their bookbags.

Homework:

Homework will be assigned at least 2-3 times a week. Students are expected to complete the assignments independently at home and turned in the next day. Assignments will be graded on completion, rather than accuracy. All assignments will have directions or videos posted in Google Classroom to help. Students will keep track of their assignments on a Homework Log. Parents are expected to sign the log when their child completed the lesson. Late homework will receive a loss of points.

Dismissal

Students will be dismissed by the teacher, not the bell. Students will be given time at the end of the period to put away any materials and pack up their belongings. Students should refrain from running out of the classroom and into the hallway.
