each campus designated as an IB World School!
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Diploma Programme (DP) at Franklin Academy
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP), for Franklin Academy students is designed for juniors and seniors who are ready for college level work and want to be ahead of the curve. The DP curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising Theory of Knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service and the Extended Essay. Through the DP core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that often involves community service. The DP is well-known throughout the world for the high quality of the coursework it offers. The strength of the IB curriculum, as well as the extensive training that IB teachers and school administrators are required to undergo, help the program to maintain this high standard. The respect that the DP enjoys means that no matter where you go, colleges will understand and positively view the effort you’ve put into earning your IB diploma. College admissions officers in particular will be familiar with the program’s reputation, making an IB diploma an excellent way of demonstrating your academic prowess.
Our approach to IB teaching and learning
At Franklin Academy, the International Baccalaureate approaches to learning skills (ATL) are grounded in the belief that learning how to learn is fundamental to a student’s life in and out of a school context. In broad terms, IB programmes support learners in developing:
Thinking skills
Communication skills
Research skills
Self-management skills
Social skills
The approaches to learning and associated sub-skills support students of all ages in being agents of their own learning experiences as self-regulated learners. Through a variety of strategies, PYP teachers collaboratively plan for implicit and explicit opportunities to develop these learning skills both inside and outside the programme of inquiry.
Becoming an International Baccalaureate certified teacher gives you the opportunity to teach some of the most academically rigorous and challening courses. IB-certified teachers teach in schools designated as IB World Schools. Each of Franklin Academy’s campuses are designated as IB World Schools and those schools are some of the top learning facilities in the United States.
Teaching and learning in the IB celebrates the many ways people work together to construct meaning and make sense of the world. An IB education empowers young people for a lifetime of learning, independently and in collaboration with others. The IB learner profile describes the shared values that inform an IB education.
