About

The City

The City of Frankfort embarked on this project with the goal of shining a light on the significance of the 1964 Freedom March on Frankfort and the invaluable impact it had on furthering the civil rights of Kentuckians.  By conducting and archiving oral history interviews, by creating short films and educational materials for PBS Learning Media, we are ensuring that current and future Kentucky school children and their families know about the March.  It is important to know that Kentuckians organized The March on Frankfort and that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Jackie Robinson came to Frankfort to support new laws that no longer tolerated racial segregation. Thank you to the City of Frankfort Board of Commissioners.

The Funders

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the National Park Service Preserving African American Civil Rights History program, for providing grant funding for this important project.
