What is the Parent Teacher Home Visits Program?
Dear Families:
Families and educators often want the same thing for students – to learn and thrive in school. The Parent Teacher Home Visits program (PTHVP) seeks to build the partnerships between parents and educators that are essential to providing quality education to all students, regardless of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, immigration status, or ability.
PTHV is a completely voluntary program for educators and families in Framingham. Before their first home visit, educators who elect to participate in PTHV are trained by both educators and parents about how to respectfully and authentically engage with families. A key aspect of this training is ensuring that families and educators are meeting each other as equal partners in their student’s education.
Caregivers and educators come together in homes or at other mutually agreed upon locations. Educators will visit in teams of two, and interpreters can be provided, if necessary. This is not a parent/teacher conference. Please know that you may be contacted by your child’s teacher to participate in one of these brief (30-40 minute) home visits.
Consistent with Framingham Public Schools’ mission, vision, and 2023-2030 Strategic Plan objectives, district leadership and the Framingham Teachers Association (FTA) have partnered in this important community outreach effort since 2017. Since its inception, our program has grown from 23 trained teachers visiting 36 families to a total of 335 trained teachers and over 834 families!
We are excited about this expanding relationship-building effort and we look forward to meeting more of our families in the year ahead!
Very truly yours,
Bob Tremblay
This site is mainly geared towards staff, but please feel free to peruse if you are interested in more information about how home visits work. Your child's teacher(s) might reach out to you about doing a home visit. While we encourage you to accept this invitation because we believe in the benefits of home visits, the program is completely voluntary.
Under the information tab you will find who the site coordinators are in each school, which staff members in our district have already been trained in parent teacher home visits, links to all newsletters, and more.
If you are interested in doing home visits and/or being trained, please reach out to the site coordinator in your school!
It has been an honor to serve as the district coordinator for the Framingham Public Schools' Parent Teacher Home Visits Program since SY23-24. I am also the ELD Coach at Fuller Middle School. Our home visits program has expanded each year, and last year our staff conducted 834 home visits. Thank you, Dr. Tremblay, for partnering with the FTA to support home visits in Framingham! ~ Megan Quinlan
