Before imperialism, India witnessed a Golden Age under the Gupta Dynasty from 4th to 5th centuries. Independent kingdoms emerged from 8th to 13th centuries, and Islamic beliefs were introduced via trade routes, leading to the formation of the first Muslim kingdom under a Ghor sultanate in 1192. The Mughal Empire was founded in 1526 by Babur, a Turkish invader, and became one of the wealthiest empires in Indian history due to its strong leaders. This wealth attracted the first European colonizers to India.
