Newsletter - 24th July 2024
Wow! What an amazing year we have had in our school! It has been wonderful to see how well our children have progressed. They have grown in so many ways and we are all very proud of what they have achieved this year.
As you will know, our school has a very passionate, hard working and dedicated staff team who, once again this year, have all gone above and beyond every single day to make sure every child in our school has the best possible start to their learning journey - filled with so many exciting and engaging experiences. I cannot thank them enough for all their efforts and support.
Equally, the incredible support that we have had from our parents and families throughout the past year has also made a huge difference to what we do here at FPIS. Thank you all! We are really very fortunate to be part of such a fantastic community and very much value our partnerships with parents. I would also like to thank our parents and families for the many lovely words, cards and gifts that we have all received as the year has drawn to a close. We have been totally overwhelmed by your generousity and kindness. A very BIG thank you to you all on behalf of the whole staff team :)
Over the last few weeks, we have celebrated the end of our academic year with some wonderful events in school...
Our Year 1 Excellent Ending event was a real showcase for the children's learning this term. The children performed a selection of songs that literally took us all together on an adventure around the world! It was great that so many parents and family members were to be able to join us to see and hear all about the things the children had been doing as they proudly shared their project scrapbooks afterwards too. The children's excitement and passion to share their learning was overhwhelming and a real joy to see! My thanks once more to our fabulous Year 1 team who did such a brilliant job with planning and organising the event.
Our Year 2 Summer Production, There is a Sunflower in my Supper was 'udderly' incredible! (apologies for yet another cow joke!) It was evident that the children thoroughly enjoyed putting on this mooosical (sorry!) from all the smiles, energy and enthusiam that filled the school hall. Their confidence was wonderful to see and it was so impressive that everyone had learnt their lines, dance moves, actions and song lyrics so well! I would like to thank once again our brilliant Year 2 team for all their hard work and creativity putting the production together - and an extra special mention and thank you to the very talented Mrs Hayward, who did such an amazing job with props and costumes.
As we wish our Hazel, Holly and Willow Class children farewell as they end their journey here at the Infant School, we send them on their way with our very best wishes for the next steps in their FPPF journey at FPJS. We are incredibly proud of you all and look forward to hearing about your new adventures from our Junior School colleagues next year! :)
Finally, our Early Years Graduation yesterday brought our celebrations to a close for this year. What a lovely way for the children to mark the end of their first school year with us here at FPIS! They have made a great start to life here at FPIS and we could not be prouder of them all. The children's enthusiasm and dance moves during their performance of 'Shake it off!' was joyful to watch and so full of passion, energy and fun! I would like to say another big thank you to our Early Years staff for putting in a super team effort to make sure our children end their Early Years journey with such a memorable and fun experience!
We will look forward to welcoming our Year 1 and 2 children and families back to school on Thursday 6th September @ 8:45 am. We will be checking in with our new Early Years children and families when they come into school for their visits during the first few days of the Autumn Term and will be delighted to welcome them on their first day at school on Tuesday 10th September @ 8:45 am.
So, as the school year ends, we can look forward to the summer break. Thank you once again for your continued support. I would like to wish you all a very happy, safe and restful summer holiday! :)
With very warm wishes

As well as being an excellent Class Teacher, Early Years Practitioner and Team Leader, Miss Hare's impact has also been evident across the wider school through her Assistant Head role. She has become a much-loved and respected colleague to us all. We wish her every success as she leaves us to embark upon her new and exciting role at The Lawns Nursery, Windsor.
We have also said farewell to Miss Pocock today who will begin her teaching training programme at Cardiff Metropolitan University in September. We wish her good luck - we are very confident that she has a great career ahead of her!

Mrs Odeniyi will be will be returning to her role teaching classes across the school as well as continuing to utilize her considerable expertise to support further development within Maths. We will also be seeing Mrs Ratcliffe in school next year when she provides supply cover for our teachers. Our thanks to both for all their hard work this year as part of the Caterpillar Class team.
Whilst Mrs Jussun will no longer be part of our regular lunchtime team in September, she has kindly offered to remain with us on a supply basis. We would like to thank her for all the kindness and care she has shown our children during lunchtimes over the past few years.

SAM - our School Attendance Mascot, is our FPIS teddy bear who helps our children think about why it is so important to attend school every day.
Our children are busy learning right from the start of the day, so being in class on time each morning matters just as much too.

Registration will begin at 8:45 am and we will expect all children to be in class by 9:00 am. The end of the day will be 3:15 pm.

We were incredibly excited to welcome Nerys Pearce, Commonwealth and Invictus Games athlete to our school this month. Nerys led an action packed session of physical challenges for our children during the morning, which was followed by a truly inspirational whole school assembly.
Nerys set the task for our children to 'push themselves' during the event - and very kindly left some very special purple wristbands for those children who continued to take on this challenge during the rest of the week after her visit. Well done to Albie (Bumblebee); Ella D (Caterpillar); Salah (Dragonfly); Noah (Beech); Frances (Oak); Seth (Silver Birch); Edith (Hazel); Julia (Holly); Mollie-Rose (Willow) who were all presented with a wristband during our Celebration Assembly at the end of that week.
As you are aware, this was a sponsorship event, organised with the help of Sports for Schools. Thanks to all those who raised money for our school - we have received a voucher worth a staggering £1035.30 to spend on sports equipment!
Thank you!
To complete our learning on Journeys our Bumblebees, Caterpillars and Dragonflies have been sharing their learning and favourite experiences during their Reception Journey. Many talked about our visit from Jumpstart Jonny and their exciting trip to Windsor. It was lovely to hear them use phases such as "I've learnt to..." and "I can now..."They also shared lots of experiences about friendships, play and personal achievements.
Last week the children visited their new classes and the Year 1 team. They we able to meet their new teachers, have a go at some activities and ask lots of questions. They all came back full of excitement and looking forward to returning after the Summer break!
Yesterday we celebrated our Early Years Graduation with parents and the Early Years Team. They came in dancing and took turns to receive their graduation certificates from Mrs Indge. The children performed their songs brilliantly and made us all extremely proud. We were particularly impressed with their Taylor Swift dance and rap, inspired by the fantastic Jump Start Jonny!
Well done Early Years, you have been an absolute pleasure this year and we are incredibly proud of you all.
What a fantastic way to end our project "We're Going on an Adventure!“. They performed a range of songs sharing the things they have learnt throughout this project. This included; the seven continents of the world, a song about explorers, different ways to say hello and a song from Ghana. All of the songs were performed by the Year 1 children with confidence and enthusiasm.
After this wonderful performance, the children were able to share their group artwork which included different habitats from around the world and their very own murals representing what is important in their world. They were also able to share their very full scrapbooks with their families.
We are so proud of the Year 1 children and all they have achieved this year. Thank you also to all of the wonderful families who came to support this wonderful event.
Our Year 2 children did such a fantastic job during our Summer Production called: There's a Sunflower in my Supper! We were so proud of their passion, commitment and determination to put on a fantastic show and they certainly achieved that! Over the last few weeks they have been working hard on their costumes, props, dances, songs and their lines and their hard work certainly paid off!
The children all did a fantastic job; they were brave, passionate and entertaining.
Well done you were udderly moooovellous!!
Throughout Summer 2, Year 2's have been busy learning about different ways to join materials together and material suitability for a boat. We linked this to learning about the Dunkirk evacuation rescue mission during World War Two. We designed, made, tested and evaluated our own boats with our very own English Channel (with choppy waves included!).
To celebrate the end of year 2 we invited our year 2 families in for a Family Boat Building Event which we cleverly called: Family Boat Building Fun! All families had 30 minutes to make a boat before it was tested. Our families worked hard to make some extremely creative and exciting boats before they began to test them. Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the event. Well done to the winners and for everyone who took part! We are very lucky to have such brilliant support from our families! :-)
To celebrate the end of our summer project 'We're Going on an Adventure!', the teachers made their way to Oaken Grove Park for a special family event. Every family had a trail card and they had to visit three different stations, complete three different activities and get all of their trail card stamped to win a prize. The activities included; matching a range of European landmarks to the correct countries and flag, finding which African animals were hiding in Oaken Grove Park and use a range of resources to recreate a famous landmark. A great time was had by all and we want to say thank you very much to all of our wonderful families for their continued support! :-)
As mentioned in the last Newsletter, Zoolab came back and visited Year 2 to deliver the workshop: Oceans.
We embarked on a submarine which took us right to the bottom of the ocean! We explored each layer of the ocean with the help of Finley the fish who kept us company on our exciting submarine ride.
We also explored a range of creatures related to animals we would find in each layer which included a python, cockroach, scorpion and a bearded dragon. We were able to touch, stroke and hold some of the animals.
The Zoolab Ranger was very impressed with our vast knowledge about our oceans and the animals we find living in the different layers.
KS1 had the opportunity to participate in Road 2 Paris workshops. A sporting event where we got to practise sports played at the Olympics and Paralympics! We learnt about the values for the Olympic and Paralympic games and then had a go at playing some. We had a go at Boccia, Boxing, Long Jump and Shooting. We even had the chance to play a Paralympic sport called Goalball where we were blind folded and had to try and score a goal using a special ball with bells. It was important we used our sense of hearing to know where the ball was! We really enjoyed learning about just some of the sports played at the Paris Summer Games and loved learning about the four additional sports that are going to be new in 2024 this year!
It was wonderful to welcome Mr Hastings and children from FPJS with their guitars for a special live performance recently. The children impressed us all with their playing skills and it was wonderful to see so many of our former FPIS pupils once again, of course!
Thank you to all the children and to Mr Hastings for organising this event.
Summer Reading Challenge 2024!
We were very pleased to welcome Laura, Library Supervisor for Boyn Grove Library to our assembly recently. Laura talked to the children about this years Summer Reading Challenge - and was impressed by how keen our children were to get involved!
If you haven't signed up already, it's not too late. You can find out more via: https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/
We have received more than 20 new books, donated via our Amazon Wish List - which is absolutely incredible! Thank you so much. Your generous gifts will help and no doubt inspire our children to become passionate and enthusiastic readers. We are delighted to let you know that thanks to your generosity, there will be a new 'Sports' reading section in our School Library next year.
Thank you :)
In the last few weeks, nurture have been busy with lots of activities including making sandwiches. The children could choose jam, marmite or cucumber, they buttered the bread, chose and spread their filling, cut the sandwiches up and finally got to eat them! We have also been decorating biscuits with icing and 100s & 1000s, the children could then choose to eat them at snack time or take them to enjoy at home.
We have been delighted with our growing beds in the front playground, the strawberries and peas have recently ripened and we have picked and enjoyed eating some. We also tried some delicious beetroot which Mrs Indge kindly cooked at home and brought back for us to taste. The courgette plants are getting really big and filling the beds.
It has been a great year in nurture and all of the nurture team would like to wish all the amazing children and their families a wonderful summer!.
Our excellent Eco Team have had a wonderful Eco year helping our school community! We are so impressed with how willing the children have been to get their hands dirty and to come up with really good ideas on how we can encourage everybody to think about our environment, particularly focusing on: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
One of our final sessions was spent creating a short video for the whole school to watch, showing what we get up to in Eco Club and some of our favourite activities that we have done throughout this year. Our children are true troopers and didn't mind the fact that we filmed in all weathers... especially the 'rainy' summer that we have had this year! This video will inspire next years Eco members to come and join our club!
We spent our last Eco club meeting having a lovely time watching the video back as if we were at the cinema with a snack and juice! Some of the children commented on their favourite activities this year:
Max and Mollie-Rose - "My favourite activity this year was to make bird feeders!"
Rafferty - "I loved gardening and weeding!"
Joseph - "Planting sunflowers from the small pots into the big planters!"
Bonnie - "I loved making the movie!"
A few children particularly enjoyed bird watching and using the binoculars.
Well done to our Eco team 2023-2024. We are super proud of you all! Look out for our lovely growing plants when we return from the summer holidays!
We can't believe another year is over with our School Council team! They have done so much this year to help raise money for our school and we are so proud of their efforts! From helping to sell poppies and red noses after school, to advertising Christmas and Summer Fairs.
It has been wonderful having such an enthusiastic and passionate team who have been excellent role models throughout the year, consistently following our school promises and values. They have brought some fantastic ideas to our meetings and shared our discussions with their classes.
We hope our School Council team continue to bring their excellent ideas wherever they go next and we wish them all the best! Thank you so much for all your hard work, we have really valued your ideas and support.
We love finding out about and celebrating our children's achievements outside of school!
If your child has an achievement that they are very proud of and would like to share with us all, they will get the opportunity to do so during our Celebration Assembly on a Friday.
