Spring is here!
What an amazing end to the Spring Term we have had here at FPIS. Not least of which was the arrival of Jump Start Jonny himself on Tuesday. WHOOPA! After the disappointment of JSJ having to postpone his original date due to injury, it was definitely worth the wait! The JSJ Live Tour exceeded our every expectation! Take a look below for more about what happened on the day...
Our Year 1 and 2 Marketplace events this week have also provided an incredible showcase and celebration of the children's achievements this term. We are so proud of how passionately they were able to share the things they have been learning about with all those who came along. It was lovely to see so many parents, family members and friends join us. What an excellent ending!
Thank you to all those who attended our recent Parent's Meetings. We hope you found them informative and helpful. We had 97% of our families book an appointment, which was fantastic. We always value the opportunity to meet with our parents to share progress, achievements and next steps in their child's learning journey. Thank you for your continued support.
With plants and animals all around gradually emerging from the depths of winter and the days getting longer, it really does feel as if spring has arrived at last. Hopefully, the weather will be kind over the school holidays! If you are celebrating, we hope you have a very Happy Easter and we very much hope that everyone enjoys the break.
We look forward to welcoming our children and families back to school for the Summer Term on Monday 15th April.
With very best wishes
Jane Indge
Head of School

SAM - our School Attendance Mascot, is our FPIS teddy bear who helps our children think about why it is so important to attend school every day.
Our children are busy learning right from the start of the day, so being in class on time each morning matters just as much too. Registration begins at 8:50am and we expect all children to be in class by 9:00am.
Each week, during our Celebration Assembly, the attendance figures are shared. The class with the best attendance overall gets to look after SAM until the following week.
SAM will be spending the holidays in Willow Class as they had the best attendance overall with a perfect score of 100%! Well done!
Our latest school attendance figures for each class are shown in the table. Our school attendance target is: 97%

On Tuesday 12th March we had our first Wellbeing Day with activities focusing on our 6 Pillars of Wellbeing. The children had an opportunity to experience activities which enabled them to connect, be active, learn, notice, give and care. The children (and adults) all had a lot of fun whilst learning about things they can do to support their wellbeing.
WHOOPA! We were all delighted to welcome Jump Start Jonny to our school on Tuesday this week. Even more energetic and enthusiastic (and much, much taller than we imagined!) in real life, JSJ gave us a day to remember with his Live Shows for each Year Group. After practising routines for weeks, the children were eager to show off their moves - and certainly impressed Jump Start Jonny (as did the grown ups too!)
Miss Turner and Mrs Indge; Miss Pocock and Miss Reike; Mrs Swaffield and Mr Thompson joined JSJ on stage to go head-to-head for a 'Shake Move Groove' competition - much to everyone's amusement!
After the shows, JSJ went on a tour of the school for Classroom Crash sessions, where he answered questions, shared some of his top tips for jumping and presented each class with their very own personalised poster.
In addition to the photos in our newsletter, please look out for those we have sent via Seesaw. JSJ has also posted some wonderful comments about our school on his social media accounts too!
We cannot thank Jump Start Jonny and his team enough for making everyone's day so special - he really is such a fantastic role model and an inspiration to us all :)
We were pleased to welcome Vicar David Short from St. Peter's Church, who came to visit Key Stage 1 today.
He came to talk to us all about Easter and build on the learning we have been doing in our RE lessons. He set us some challenges: a shoe challenge: where we had to make the shape of the Christian cross with our shoes and a bunny hop challenge. Once we had completed the challenges we all got to play our part in the story. We chose different coloured pieces of paper which all had different meanings associated with the Easter story.
A huge thank you to David once again for coming to visit us today!
We had a super-silly day for Comic Relief's Red Nose Day on Friday 15th March.
Thank you to all those who purchased a Red Nose from our School Council team.
We smashed our target, raising a phenomenal £483! Thank you to all those who were able to donate to this very worthy cause. Every pound raised will help to make a difference to the lives of millions of people across the UK and around the world.
Thank you to all those who donated a book or made a contribution via their ScoPay account for World Book Day. We are very grateful to have some lovely new books, as pictured, to support our projects in school. The books have been added to our School Library system and will be available to loan after the holidays!
Our Bumblebee, Caterpillar and Dragonfly children have enjoyed learning about the life-cycle of a chick. Through observing them everyday they have been able to notice and talk about the changes that they could see. Our Early Years children all got the opportunity to hold one of our chirpy chicks and even had a go at naming them. The learnt about the characteristics of a chick, how to care for them and discovered how they grow and develop. We have all thoroughly enjoyed hatching chicks in school. They have now gone back to the farm where they will have more room to continue to grow into hen's and roosters!
Following on from this, the children have been busy creating some lovely observational drawings of our chicks during busy learning and some children even chose to design a chick on the front of their Easter card which they are excited to bring home today! We have been so impressed with their writing inside their cards.
During Discovery RE we have been learning about different celebrations. Last week we learnt all about Ramadan. Mrs Bi and Mrs Hussain showed the children some pictures of traditional food, read them a story about Ramadan and gave the children time to ask lots of questions. Mrs Bi taught us how to put on a Hijab and even modelled it on some of the children that wanted to have a go! The children absolutely loved using the coffee paste to create some beautiful Henna designs which they were very proud of! This week we continued our learning about Easter. The children have shared the story, discovered Christian symbols and learnt about how Easter is celebrated around the world.
In maths, we have been learning about doubles. The children have been using their fingers to represent double numbers and impressing us with their super stem sentences. For example, "four is made of two and two. Two and two makes Four." We have also been playing some fun sorting games with different objects from around the classroom such as spoons! The children have had to guess how the objects have been sorted and then had a go at their own, choosing to sort by colour, size, material and shape! This week we explored three dimensional shapes. Some of the children chose to create fantastic models and some chose to print with the shapes. We were so impressed with the mathematical language used to describe their creations.
The children have had great fun and learnt so much about animals over the past few months. We can't wait to begin exploring our new project next term!
In the final step of our Sticky Knowledge for geography this term we played a game where we revised the captial cities of the Uk and described their location relative to each one, by using the compass points north, south, east or west. We also completed our musical journey through the UK when we listened to a piece of traditional Irish dancing music, drawing and writing about how it made us feel.
We have also been very busy planning, creating and improving our Emergency! marketplace stalls. We decided what we wanted to focus on and worked in groups to develop our ideas. We hope you enjoyed your visit and learnt something new too!
In maths we have been continuing to work systematically when trying to solve word problems, such as, "Convince me you have found all of the number bonds to 12." We have been creating fact families for sets of numbers up to 20 and found that there are eight different ways to show these equations! We have found the difference between two numbers and represented this first by carefully placing our objects or lining up groups of children to show this before using number lines to compare the position of the numbers on the line. We have had fun counting to and from 50. We have also been using different words to describe the position of objects and the direction of turns we make.
We have been very busy planning our marketplace stalls and working collaboratively to bring to life our plans!
Yesterday we held our Marketplace showcasing our learning from our Spring project 'Fire, Fire!'. The children presented their Sticky Knowledge learning with confidence and enthusiasum.
Some of the amazing stalls included; a Science stall including discussions around the Great Plague of 1665 which included a germ experiment to teach our grown-ups how germs can spread, sewing and creating scent bags, Samuel Pepys, the Monument, Tower Bridge, London Landmarks in 2024, how London has changed since 1666, firefighting and how this has changed, spot the difference between the old and new St. Paul's Cathedral, our very own art gallery, trying ship's biscuits and finally Pudding Lane was also brought to life which included Thomas Farriner's bakery!
Thank you very much for all of your support and the lovely feedback shared on the proud clouds.
We are all extremely proud of the Year 2 children and we are sure that you are too!
In nurture, the children have continued to explore their senses. For one activity, they put their hands in a bag and used just their sense of touch to try to identify items such as a paintbrush, dice, marble, pom pom and a coin. They also had great fun using their sense of smell followed by taste to identify different flavoured crisps including cheese & onion, roast chicken, prawn cocktail and marmite. We had some very interesting results!
The nurture team wish all of our children and their families a very happy Easter and we look forward to seeing them again in April.
During Eco club we were lucky enough to have a special visit from The Lions Club of Maidenhead who kindly donated a variety of eco-themed books. These books cover important ecological situations such as plastic in our oceans, rainforests, deforestation, habitat loss, climate change and pollution in our oceans.
The Eco team really enjoyed reading these stories and talking about the illustrations. They were able to think deeply about the ecological topics and ask relevant questions to find out more.
We are looking forward to spending more time reading these stories and discussing how we can help to look after our planet!
We love finding out about and celebrating our children's achievements outside of school!
If your child has an achievement that they are very proud of and would like to share with us all, they will get the opportunity to do so during our Celebration Assembly on a Friday.

During the Book Bingo session, the children spend time looking through the books together with the adults, whilst discussing and explaining what they have been busy learning about.
Foreign currency collection
Thank you to everyone who gave their unwanted coins and notes, this has helped us raise a whopping £511. We had notes from 25 countries, coins from 37 countries and plenty of Euros too which helped us collect a fantastic amount.
Happy Bags collection
The recent Happy Bags collection last week raised £324 for both schools. Thank you for your bags!
Quiz Night
Mr T's quiz night was back last Friday! Just over 100 people formed into 22 teams joined in the fun. Congratulations went to team x who were the clear winners with team y runners-up. The 3rd place team had to get through a tie-breaker question and came away with the bronze trophy and some pot noodles. The most controversial moment of the night is when half a point was given to teams that wrote 'Like a Virgin' when asked what was the ultimate Madonna song as voted by Radio 2 listeners (the correct answer was 'Like a Prayer'). The music round ended with an incredible live performance from The Backstreet Boys who sang two numbers - 'I want it that way' and then after a delayed encore, they finished with 'Everybody'. Before the band left to go back to the Maidenhead Premier Inn, band member Brian Littrell said it was the best gig they had done this tour!
FPSA AGM
The AGM was held at the Infants on Wednesday evening. The FPSA raised £29,000 last year which is fabulous. Sadly we had to say goodbye to some long standing members - Rachel, Katarina, Anna and Libuse. Thank you to you all for your hard work and friendship.

Dear Parents
With the Easter holidays nearly upon us, many families will be seeking to spend time outdoors and possibly travel to locations throughout the county and beyond that have open water, including lakes, rivers, canals, or even coastal waters. We want to make sure that families are aware of the possible risks and are taking all necessary steps when near or on the water, especially as the weather is still unpredictable and the ground water levels are still high.
With this in mind, here is an information booklet from the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS) which we are sharing with parents before the Easter holidays in order to help keep themselves and their families safe.
Did you know…
· 59% of UK accidental drownings and 84% of UK child drownings occur in inland waters e.g. rivers, lakes and canals
· 44% of those that lost their lives to accidental drowning in the UK never intended to be in the water
· 2022 saw a 46% increase in the number of child drownings in the UK, compared to the 5 year average
