Welcome to the "COLA Volunteer Workgroup" for General Assembly 227.

COLA = Committee on Local Arrangements

This workgroup volunteers at the General Assembly in Milwaukee in June 2026. An event hosted by the Presbytery of Milwaukee for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

GA Volunteer Overview

Please find the overview and guidelines for upcoming volunteer opportunities below:

Shifts and Scheduling

- Shift Duration: Job opportunities are posted in 2 to 3-hour increments.

- Hours of Operation: Shifts generally run from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, excluding special events.

- Flex Job Shifts: A "Flex" option is available daily (15 spots). Volunteers may arrive any time between 9:00 AM and 5:30 PM to be assigned a task.

- Management: All opportunities and shifts are managed via VolunteerLocal.com (VLS). You can also download the mobile app to manage your schedule and receive reminders.

Check-In and Location

- Location: The volunteer booth is located near the VisitMKE Kiosk.

- Check-In: Volunteers are required to check in and check out for every shift.

- Facilities: A shared conference room in the Baird Center North Building is available for use during your shift.

Attire and Equipment

- Badges: Non-transferable badges provided by COLA must be worn at all times and returned at the end of your shift.

- Vests: A cobbler apron-style volunteer vest will be provided. It must be collected at the volunteer station before your shift and returned immediately afterward.

- Dress Code: Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

1. Milwaukee Mitchell Airport (MKE)
2. Baird Center (South for Online Plenary, North for In-Person, South for Action Day)
3. Community Day - Baird Center & Pere Marquette Park
4. Hotels: Hilton, Hyatt, Springhill Suites - in downtown Milwaukee

Note that Volunteers are expected to provide transportation and food for themselves. Feel free to coordinate with others and eat in the parks or surrounding restaurants. Bulk food and drinks purchased outside Baird is not allowed inside the building.

Job Shift Types

There are 3 types of Job Shifts in VLS:

VLS Sign Me Up Shift - Placeholder
- All volunteers are assigned this shift, so they can receive the communications.
- Assigned to everyone when they sign up on the VLS App (VolunteerLocal.com Software)
VLS Specific Job Shift - Specific Date/Time
- Volunteers select a specific job at a specified date and time.
VLS Flexible Me Pool Shift - Show Up and Help on selected days
- Volunteers can add themselves to the volunteer pool for the day and show up and help where needed.

VL Mobile App - Manage volunteer profile/bio, manage job shifts on the go, shift reminders
WhatsApp - ??? Need to test first!! workgroup announcements. (strictly business only)

We will schedule in-person meetings and roadshows to discuss technology and provide hands-on help for volunteers to organize their job shifts and manage their volunteer schedule.

There are 3 types of job shifts to choose from to allow flexibility for all.
