Built during the post-WWII "See the USA in your Chevrolet" boom, The Crest Motel first opened its doors in the early 1950s. It was one of about 20 "motor hotels" that sprung up along US Highways 138 and 6, initially featuring eight modest rooms attached to a carriage house and a matching blonde brick three-story home. This stately residence and carriage house, originally constructed around the turn of the twentieth century by John Luten, served as the Luten family home until the late 1940s.
Two Sterling businessmen then acquired the property, converting it into a commercial venture with the motel, a parking lot, and apartments. Over the next four decades, the property changed hands a dozen times before F. Dennis and Mrs. Foxhoven purchased it in 1994, making the residence their home. Mrs. Foxhoven envisioned transforming the motel rooms into charming, "bedroom-style" cottages, a vision that defines The Crest today.
In 2010, the Foxhovens revitalized the property, replacing the parking lot with a beautiful courtyard filled with vibrant flowers and centered around a catalpa tree. They embraced innovation early, introducing keyless locks and virtual check-in a decade before the COVID-19 pandemic made "contactless" experiences mainstream. Each room underwent individual renovation, receiving unique decor and furniture, with most original hardwood floors meticulously sanded and refinished. Their son, returning in 2017 after managing branded hotels in the Denver Tech Center, now oversees the business, continuing the family's dedication to this evolving property. The Crest Motel remains a delightful work in progress, with ongoing enhancements to ensure your stay is memorable.
We invite you to experience our family-run "motel" and hope to welcome you back often!
