We have purchased masks and visors for all staff and spare masks for students where needed.
Dear future Foxhills student
Hi my name is Josh T, I am currently in year 9 at Foxhills and I started here in September 2017.
When I first started at Foxhills I was really excited. I had been on some transition days and all the teachers were really nice. It’s not as scary as I thought it would be. My older brother Olly was in year 11 and I knew he would look out for me, and I had lots of friends from Junior School going to Foxhills as well. I thought I would get lost around the school a lot as it seemed really big, and I did a few times but there is always someone around to help you to get where you need to be. Everyone is really nice. Lunchtimes are my favourite time, I hang out with my friends and we sit around and chat. You have a choice of either school lunches or packed lunches. I take fruit and a few snacks and also buy little bits of lunch too. The fish and chips on a Friday are really nice so are the pizzas.
I really enjoy my history lessons. The teachers are really nice; they help you a lot to understand what we are learning. This is what made me decide to take History as my options in year 9. We have learnt about the slave trade, the Elizabethan Era,World War Two and about Queen Victoria. My favourite subject was the slave trade. My favourite memory is just being in class, everyone is relaxed and the lessons are fun.
When you start at Foxhills you might feel nervous, but everyone does on their first day or week. There’s nothing to be nervous about though, the teachers and pupils are really nice and we all look out for each other.
I hope you enjoy your first day at Foxhills.
From
Josh T
Dear future Foxhills student,
My name is Joseph. I am currently in Year 9 and I started at Foxhills in 2017. So when you start our school I will be moving into year 10. When I first started I felt confused about the academic system and moving around the school to different subjects, but it is easy to learn and before long you will be able to follow it blindfolded.
I enjoy lots of my lessons and found it extremely difficult to choose between history and geography but I choose history .In my history lessons we learnt about World Wars and how soldiers felt as well as the conditions they fought in and their experience though each war. This is especially relevant this year as we have just celebrated V.E. In addition to this one of my favourite lessons was when we were given coke or lemonade to imitate a 1920s speakeasy. I enjoyed learning about animal evolution and food chains in science as it was interesting and easy to understand. Some advice for some of the schools services on events like remembrance day always carry money on you if you intend to purchase a poppy.
The lessons are all on smart boards and easy to follow. My mum went to a grammar school a long time ago and she said her lessons were all done on a black board with chalk and a big wooden board rubber to erase the writing. She also said if you was talking in class the teacher would throw the board rubber at you and if it hit you it was deemed your own fault for not paying attention. You don't have to worry though none of the teachers at Foxhills will throw anything at you. It is important though that you do pay attention and not talk in class as you might receive a consequence mark.
My advice to you is not to worry but to take your time to settle in and above all enjoy this new way of learning. This year things I imagine with Covid 19 things and systems in place will be a bit different for all of us.
I hope to see you around, Joseph
Dear future Foxhills student,
My name is Daisie S and I am a year 7 student at Foxhills. I started to attend Foxhills in September 2019. When I first started at Foxhills, it was a bit scary as it was a new school and I had to get used to the new surroundings. It was a lot different than my previous school. The school staff made me feel welcome when I walked in on my first day.
Tips for starting are that you shouldn’t worry. It will take a while to settle in but your teacher will help you. Your teacher will make sure that you are comfortable with what you are learning. Don’t worry about the lesson and just make sure you are comfortable and happy in the first lesson. If you have any problems then don’t be afraid to speak to your teacher.
That's it for now but remember, there is no need to worry about starting a new school with new teachers.
Daisie
