Project Based Learning (PBL) is a student centered, standards driven, real-world approach to learning that challenges students to seek understanding through a process of  sustained inquiry that leads to developing projects with real-world impact. 

Inherently different than projects, service learning and even Genius Hour, PBL does possess some qualities of those methods.
