Especially during the time of a global pandemic, our students engage in a variety of experiences that foster creativity and curiosity, demonstrating the skills and dispositions needed to solve real-world problems and to become caring and productive members of the global community.
Through experiences that help students develop the competencies we hold in high regard in our Portrait of a Graduate, students actively work to become:
Courageous Leaders
Creative Problem Solvers
Curious Critical Thinkers
Empathetic Collaborators
Global Communicators
In order to take into account the diverse needs of our learners during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, students in the Fort Thomas Independent Schools could potentially engage in three different types of learning.
In large part this is the traditional model of education with students engaging in direct classroom instruction five days a week with their teacher.
In this model, students can expect potentially smaller class sizes to accommodate a six foot distance within the classroom
They may engage in cohort style learning to reduce contact
Collaboration with teachers and classmates will be in real-time with safety measures
Monitor health and report if feeling unwell
Mask when moving or when a 6 foot distance can not be maintained
Sanitize space and wash hands often
Respect space and wellbeing of classmates
The Remote Learning option is available for families who do not feel that it is in the best interest of the student to return to Face-to-Face schooling.
Based upon decisions by each SBDM Council, students will likely engage in a virtual learning program selected at the school level.
Students will be assigned a remote learning instructor who will help monitor progress and will periodically meet with students to offer assistance and support.
Complete assigned Remote Learning path virtually
Establish a quiet space at home to work daily
Engage in learning activities remotely five days a week during regular school hours
Meet with remote learning teacher periodically to check in
Self advocate for assistance from remote learning teacher when needed
Students will need reliable wifi connection and a quiet space to work
NTI will be implemented only when the risk of COVID-19 is so high that it would severely impact the health and safety of the school community.
Students taking advantage of the Remote model of learning will continue with that program if the District moves to NTI.
Students previously working in a Face-to-Face model will move to NTI where they will continue to work with their classroom teachers five days a week with content being delivered through Schoology or Seesaw.
Students will engage in time-bound assignments and virtual Microsoft Teams meetings with their Face-to-Face teacher to receive instruction.
Establish daily routines for learning
Complete assignments and group work in a timely manner designated by the teacher
Be proactive in communicating if additional support is needed
Regularly monitor Schoology or Seesaw for work and announcements from teachers
Complete assignments with integrity and academic honesty
