TO MOTIVATE YOUNG PEOPLE TO BE BETTER CITIZENS

With the school’s support, the Northside JROTC program is working to achieve program goals by using a world-class 21st Century, technology driven, student centered curriculum. The curriculum consists of education in citizenship, leadership, social and communication skills, physical fitness and wellness, geography, and civics.

For SY 20/21, the Fort Smith Northside JROTC program ranked 1st in Arkansas for total number of cadets, as well as in all of 5th Brigade (Eight State Region). It is one of the only programs in the state to offer such a diverse and high number of Cadet Command approved activities to include; CyberPatriot, Drill(Color Guard, Honor Guard, Saber Team, Armed/Unarmed Regulation and Armed/Unarmed Exhibition), JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl(JLAB), Raider Team, Rifle Team, Robotics.


The JROTC program is very active in the local community, donating over 4,000 service learning hours per year to include events such as Wreaths Across America, The Salvation Army Kettle Bell Drive, Night to Shine, local parades, and a host of other smaller events.

Grizzly Battalion cadets have a winning tradition and are extremely successful in their JROTC Activities. Competing nationally in JLAB and winning state championships in Rifle 19 of the last 21 years. The Raider Team and Drill Teams consistently win or place in the events they compete in. The cadets also compete in cyber defense competitions on the CyberPatriot Team. And new to the program this year is VEX Robotics.

Finally, they continue to excel academically by inducting more than 30% of the cadets into the JROTC Honor Society and receiving numerous scholarships for academic and leadership excellence.
