Leaders can't lead effectively from a distance. Come to school daily. Members must maintain eligibility with a minimum daily attendance rate of 90%. Members who do not meet this minimum may be removed from office and from the leadership course at the end of first semester.
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find assignments in Google Classroom.
Please make every effort to complete work by the due date, even if you were absent the day it was assigned. If you are absent due to extenuating circumstances or an illness that prevents you from completing school work, please contact me to arrange alternate due dates.
All class information is posted in Google Classroom.
A summary of each class period is posted daily on the Stream tab.
Paper copies handed out in class will be posted on the Classwork tab as a Resource.
Digital assignments will be posted on the Classwork tab as an Assignment.
Work should be turned in as it was assigned: paper worksheets turned in on paper, digital assignments turned in via Google Classroom.
STUCO is a mix of individual leadership lessons, small group projects, whole-council events, and activities outside of the school day including afternoons, evenings, and weekends about 2-3 times per month.
Put required STUCO events on your calendar ASAP and add additional ones as they’re scheduled.
Required events are worth 5 points per hour. Ex: Homecoming Decorating 7:30am-11:30am = 20 points.
If you have a conflict, email me at least two weeks ahead of the event date.
There are no excused absences. If you miss a required event, it’s a zero for that event. Read the next bullet!
There are opportunities to “earn back” points from missed events by helping with additional, non-required STUCO events and tasks. You are encouraged to find ways to serve on behalf of STUCO to make up points. Pre-approval is required; just chat with me.
Please make every effort to complete work by the due date, even if you were absent the day it was assigned.
Students may still turn in leadership lesson assignments after the due date for 80% credit until the end of the quarter. Late work will not be accepted once the quarter during which it was assigned is over.
Leadership project event dates are set by the school (Homecoming, for example) or by the council member when they plan their event. The due dates for these activities is dependent on the event dates, so work must be done on time.
The skills we build in STUCO, like professional communications and public speaking, take practice. Leadership lessons and assessments can be re-done. I encourage STUCO members to try again and to improve their skills! Just ask me about re-taking an assessment and we can schedule a time that works for both of us. All re-takes are due in the quarter during which they are assigned.
I will be excited to see you each day! I will have a full lesson planned for us that includes instruction, practice, and independent work. You can count on me to provide feedback during class and on your assignments (so please read the notes/video messages/stickers I leave on your digital work, too). And, I always tell my students to ASK ME QUESTIONS. Answering questions is a really important part of any teacher's job, and I'm here to help you.
Grade Updates
My plan is to have the gradebook updated each Friday for all assignments due from the previous week. Late assignments will be graded after other (current) assignments have been graded. For big events, like leadership projects, committees, and council events, grades will not post until after the event concludes and evaluations are completed and / or the end of the semester when leadership projects are due.
