I'm starting my 31st year in education, and this is my 30th year at Fort Osage High School. At Fort, I teach French and a leadership class for Student Council, but I also taught English, journalism, speech, and yearbook production before coming to FOHS.
When I'm not in Room 113, you can usually find me hanging out with my family. We're a small thing - just me, my husband Warren, and my 12th grade daughter, Anna, but we never seem to get bored spending time together. Whether it's making dinner, playing board games, going to the movies, attending Royals games, walking trails and bike riding at local parks, or checking out all that the KC Metro has to offer, we keep ourselves entertained. We also love visiting national parks and traveling to see family in Missouri, Minnesota, Virginia, Florida, and Oregon.
My other loves include reading, yoga, baking, attending musicals, competitive reality TV shows, and houseplants. I'd really like to have a big garden, but our backyard is a super highway of deer, rabbits, raccoons, and chipmunks, and they are a hungry bunch! So, I have a porch full of planters, many houseplants, and garden beds of anything marked "deer proof."
A lot of my time is also spent with Student Council. As the STUCO Advisor, I get to do crazy, fun things with students as we work on school culture and climate. From events at FOHS to conferences around the state and USA, it's one of the best things about teaching!
Our tiny family enjoys spending time together. Ax-throwing suprised us all because I won!
My daughter always finds the most fun places to check out when we travel...and then we play along! This was a fun afternoon at Rainbow Vomit in Dallas.
My husband and daughter at KC's Money Museum. Wherever we go, if there's a photo frame like this, I make them take a picture. They are such good sports!
My COVID 2020 project was nurturing a sourdough starter (named Merlin, because he makes yeasty magic) and baking sourdough bread. We ate a lot of mediocre loaves before I baked this beauty. We celebrated Merlin's 5th birthday in April and the yummy bakes continue!
June almost always finds me at STUCO camp for a week. I LOVE being an AC (Adult Counselor) for the Missouri Association of Student Councils. This is me and the two JCs (Junior Counselors) who ran an amazing week for our council in 2019.
Humans are complex. I have layers, just like Shrek and his onion!
I'm an introvert, but STUCO gets me out of my comfort zone on the regular. Lip dub in front of 1200 people at one of our MASC State Conventions was a blast!
