Please read all information and understand your role and responsibilities as a student. Remember, I am on your side and want to help you! Reach out with your questions and ask for help.
The key to learning is to pay attention and participate. Success may not be immediate, and there will be failures, but after that comes success! Key things to do in order to be successful:
Attend class daily
Put away personal devices
Close Chromebook tabs unrelated to French (games, movies, videos, messaging apps, etc.)
Actively participate every day in each of our learning activities
Ask questions when you are lost or do not understand what we're doing
Chromebook (charged) and charger.
Pencil/Paper
Earbuds THAT WORK WITH A CHROMEBOOK.
A 3-ring folder with pockets (or a section in your large 3-ring binder just for French)
Basic set of ONE of these: crayons, thin-line markers, highlighters or colored pencils. Your choice!
Hybrid Students: We cannot share supplies. This includes the teacher's Chromebook, charger, and headphones/earbuds. Bring YOURS to class every day. Mrs. Burnett WILL NOT be able to loan you hers.
You are expected to be in attendance daily. All students, virtual and hybrid, need to login daily by the time class is scheduled to begin. Daily attendance is critical for instruction, whether you are in-person or virtual. Please join your class using the Google Meet link posted on the banner in Google Classroom.
2nd Hour: Login by 8:25am (Monday-Thursday); 8:50am (Friday only)
4th Hour: Login by 10:15am (Monday-Thursday); 10:35 (Friday only)
Daily attendance is important! Come to class every day. Some assignments, like partner activities, listening practice, and daily bell ringers cannot be made up if you were absent. Quizzes and tests missed from absences, including field trips and school-related events, may be required to be made up before and/or after school.
If you are absent, you can find a summary of what we did that day on the Stream tab of your French class's Google Classroom. Any digital assignments will be posted as assignments on the Classwork tab. Any paper copies we used in class will be posted as a resource on the Classwork tab.
Please make every effort to complete work by the due date, even if you were absent the day it was assigned. If you are absent due to extenuating circumstances or an illness that prevents you from completing school work, please contact me to arrange alternate due dates.
If you are placed on quarantine, expectations depend on whether you are sick or at home due to contact tracing/exposure. Please contact Mrs. Burnett if you will have an extended absence and have questions about your assignments or due dates.
If you are sick, you should rest and recuperate. When you feel better, arrange for new due dates for your missing work.
If you are well, you should continue completing work as assigned. Contact Mrs. Burnett to arrange for instruction or to be included in class through available technology.
If you have an extended absence due to health or family emergency, expectations depend on the circumstances of your absence. Please contact Mrs. Burnett if you will have an extended absence and have questions about your assignments or due dates.

All assignments will be posted in Google Classroom. See the "Classwork" tab. They will be organized chronologically by week and the date assigned.
We do a lot of practice activities before a graded assignment is collected. Not all the work you do will be graded, but all the work you do is important to learning how to read, write, speak, and understand French. I will let you know in advance which assignments are for a grade.
All class information is posted in Google Classroom.
A summary of each class period is posted daily on the Stream tab.
Paper copies handed out in class will be posted on the Classwork tab as a Resource.
Digital assignments will be posted on the Classwork tab as an Assignment.
Work should be turned in as it was assigned: paper worksheets turned in on paper, digital assignments turned in via Google Classroom.
We do a lot of practice activities because learning a language takes practice. Many assignments will be for no points or completion points, but after we've practiced for a while, grades will be assigned based on proficiency (what's done correctly and what's done incorrectly).
Please make every effort to complete work by the due date, even if you were absent the day it was assigned.
Work is assigned daily and is generally due by the end of the class period. Homework assignments will have a clear due date. Late work is not accepted after the Unit DCA / Unit Assessment.
Projects will NOT be accepted late.
Grammar Quiz:
Turn in all missing assignments related to the quiz.
Fix the errors on your quiz.
Look up an online practice of the grammar concept. Practice online until you score 90% or higher. Take a screen shot of the online practice score and email it to me along with the date you'd like to reassess.
Vocabulary Quiz:
Turn in all missing assignments related to the quiz.
Hand-write 10 words from the quiz (preferably the ones you missed) along with French equivalent 10 times each. Turn in the hand- written paper.
Schedule a meeting time with your teacher outside of class to discuss the plan to reassess.
Have no missing assignments. Missing assignments must be completed and turned in, but they will not be accepted for points.
Score a C- (70%) or higher on all quizzes in the unit. This may mean reassessing on unit quizzes.
Complete the unit study guide.
Make corrections on your DCA.
Make a study plan that will show evidence of learning the missed material.
When the above steps have been met and you've completed your study plan, schedule a reassessment date outside of class.
Speaking DCA Study Ideas:
Read the comments on your DCA scoring guide and fill out the section that asks what you can do to improve.
Schedule a tutoring time with me to practice pronunciation and/or discuss practice options.
Writing / Grammar DCA Study Ideas:
Read the comments on your DCA scoring guide, and fill out the section that asks what you can do to improve.
Re-write your answer on the DCA writing section(s) making corrections.
For Grammar/Vocabulary sections of the DCA, use Quizlet sets, write out vocabulary, make flashcards on note cards, write out verb conjugations, etc.
Listening DCA Study Ideas:
Improve vocabulary retention: use Quizlet sets, write out vocabulary, make flashcards on note cards, write out verb conjugations, etc.
Say words aloud. Use Quizlet sets to hear the vocabulary.
Schedule a tutoring time with me to practice pronunciation and/or discuss practice options.
Reading DCA Study Ideas:
Improve vocabulary retention: use Quizlet sets, write out vocabulary, make flashcards on note cards, write out verb conjugations, etc.
Complete or re-do the unit's reading assignments.
DO NOT USE GOOGLE TRANSLATE OR ANY OTHER TRANSLATING SERVICE AT ALL.
It's easy for me to tell when you use a translating service.
Keep in mind that you are a LANGUAGE LEARNER; therefore, your English skills will be much more advanced than your French skills. I expect basic French from new learners. You will not write at the same level as you do in English.
I will NEVER assign something that requires vocabulary or grammar that you do not know. In some cases I allow up to a fixed number of words to be looked up and identified.
Work that is translated or is not original to the student will receive ZERO points and will NOT be allowed to be resubmitted.
I will be excited to see you each day! I will have a full lesson planned for us that includes instruction, practice, and independent work. You can count on me to provide feedback during class and on your assignments (so please read the notes left on your digital work, too). And, I always tell my students to ASK ME QUESTIONS. Answering questions is a really important part of any teacher's job, and I'm here to help you.
Grade Updates
My plan is to have the gradebook updated each Friday for all assignments due from the previous week. Late assignments will be graded after other (current) assignments have been graded. Tests are graded and in the gradebook within one week of the date taken.
Adult and Student Contact:
Adults (Parents/Guardians): Updates will be sent prior to major projects and DCAs using the district's Parent Link System. Adults will also be contacted as needed on an individual basis.
Students: Check Google Classroom, read comments left on assignments, and check your email daily.
