August 7th, 2026 - Volume 2
Dear Viking Families,
What a beautiful first two days of school for our 26-27 school year! Your children bring magic to this building and the As we settle into the rhythm of the new school year, I want to take a moment to highlight one of the most important aspects of our FCS Mission: Safety. Creating a safe and secure environment is foundational to learning, and it’s something we take very seriously at our school.
Next week, our students will begin learning about emergency procedures, including what to do in the event of a fire alarm, severe weather alert, or other emergency situations. These drills are not meant to alarm, but to empower. When students understand what to do and why, they feel more confident and prepared—and that’s exactly what we want.
We teach these procedures with care and clarity, ensuring that students know:
How to respond calmly and quickly to alarms.
Where to go and who to follow during evacuations or lockdowns.
Why practicing these routines helps keep everyone safe.
You can support this learning at home by talking with your child about the importance of these drills. Ask them what they’ve learned, how they felt during the practice, and remind them that safety is a team effort. If your child expresses any concerns or fears, please don’t hesitate to reach out to their teacher, counselor, or to me directly. We’re here to support every student emotionally as well as physically.
In addition to emergency drills, we continue to prioritize safety through:
Secure building entry procedures.
Staff training in crisis response and de-escalation.
Strong partnerships with local safety officials.
A culture of kindness, respect, and responsibility.
We believe that leadership includes looking out for one another, and safety is a key part of that. As a Leader in Me school, we teach students that being proactive and thinking win-win applies to how we care for our community, especially in moments that require calm and courage.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our school safe, welcoming, and strong. Below is a presentation that has more information about our specific campus, our safety process, and the video we show all students when we are learning about the above drills. If you have questions about our safety protocols or suggestions for improvement, my door is always open.

🌟 Help Us Celebrate Our Amazing Vikings! 💙💗
At Vickery Creek, we know that the heart of our school is the incredible people who show up every day to support, encourage, teach, and inspire our students. We are excited to introduce two new monthly awards that give our Vickery Creek families an opportunity to help us recognize the staff members who make a difference in the lives of our students.
🏆 Spirit of the Viking Award
This award celebrates a certified teacher who demonstrates the heart and spirit of a Viking through their dedication to students, their commitment to learning, and the positive impact they make in our school community. Nominees may include general education teachers, special education teachers, ESOL, EIP, pathways teachers, and other certified teaching staff.
🎉 Spirit of the Playmaker Viking Award
We also want to shine a spotlight on the many incredible staff members who work behind the scenes and alongside our teachers to help our students and school thrive. This award celebrates a supporting staff member whose dedication, kindness, teamwork, and commitment make a meaningful difference.
Our Playmakers include the people who help our school run, grow, and care for students each day—from instructional assistants and custodians to counselors, office staff, cafeteria team members, coaches, specialists, and so many others.
💙 Now, we need YOUR help! 💗
We invite our Vickery Creek families to help us recognize the amazing staff members who make our school such a special place to learn and grow. Think about the teacher who has made your child feel seen and valued. The staff member who always greets your child with a smile. The person who goes above and beyond, makes a connection, solves a problem, lends a helping hand, or simply brings a little more joy to our school each day.
If someone has made a difference in your child's experience at Vickery Creek, we want to hear about them! Please fill in the google form linked above or below.
Keep an eye out each month for the opportunity to nominate a Spirit of the Viking or Spirit of the Playmaker Viking. Together, we can celebrate the people who make Vickery Creek the incredible community it is. 🏆💙💗

Parents: Each year we are proud to have a student lighthouse team, made up of students from all grade levels. We will be establishing our student lighthouse team in August, and want to be sure you have the application early so your child can start completing the application early. This team will establish and create the student action teams that help with student-driven ideas, initiatives, and ways students think our school can improve. Leadership in Action!
