English Language Arts News

In Language Arts, students recently began Unit 6: Research. Since returning from spring break, we have been exploring the true story, Escape From Alcatraz. Students have been using the story to revisit and apply concepts learned in Unit 2. Over the next week, we will be reviewing and preparing for Milestones while also focusing on commas, dashes, and parentheses.

If a student has not submitted missing work, then it will remain as a “missing” in the gradebook until it is turned in. Please have your child reach out and plan for a time to make up their missing work with their teacher.

Enrichment News

Lakeside 6th graders voted, and A Perfect Mistake by Melanie Conklin is our March Madness champion! We are so thankful that our Media Center was able to use Read-A-Thon funds to purchase a copy of all 16 books from this year’s bracket. The kids are very excited to check out these new books! With testing coming up and our school library closing in May, we introduced students to using the Forsyth County Public Library eBooks feature. This allows students to read available books on a school Chromebook without having to download them to a Kindle or other personal device. Students have been advised that they may only select books from the kids’ or teens’ sections and that parents/guardians should be aware of any book they are reading. In order to reach their goal of reading 25 books, students should be working on book 21 and genre 7.

Math News

The Math Milestones test is scheduled for April 26.  We are reviewing all standards prior to the test.  Please check ItsLearning for daily work. Advanced math students are also working on 7th-grade standards covering operations with positive and negative rational numbers. Accelerated math students will start a project to review math skills we have learned this year in anticipation of Milestones testing. After this, accelerated math students will complete our last 7th grade unit which will take us to the end of the year!
