School News 


There is only one microwave in the cafeteria at this time due to students breaking them and heating up non-microwavable food items.  Please take this into consideration when packing lunch as they will not be replaced immediately. Also, please do not send student lunches with glass containers.


**Please encourage your student to check Lost and Found at the end of the 6th grade hallway.  We have lots of unclaimed water bottles, jackets, and sweatshirts.

Field Trip Information 

On Monday, March 27th, Sixth grade students will be going to SFHS to see James and the Giant Peach. Students will be split into two groups to accommodate our large group. One group will attend a 10:30 showing and the other group will attend a 12:00 showing. Please be on the lookout for a permission form.  Payments can be made on MyPaymentsPlus.

English Language Arts News

In Language Arts, students wrapped up Unit 4 and have started on Unit 5. We have been reading the novel Among the Hidden, written by, Margaret Peterson Haddix.

 

While reading, students will be applying knowledge that they learned during Unit 1. This material will be applied through our novel study. Upcoming quiz dates will be posted below.

Enrichment News

March is Women’s History Month. Students have learned about the history of this month and will have various activities throughout the month to learn about and celebrate historical female figures. We will also have a little fun with March Madness - Enrichment-style! Students will be introduced to 16 new books over the next few weeks and will vote on which book they want to advance in each bracket. Which book will be the Lakeside champion?

Math News

Students have completed their study of Geometry. We have now started a new unit on Statistics. The first statistics formative quiz is scheduled for around March 17th and will cover recognizing statistical questions and computing statistical measures data sets including mean, median, mode, and range. Students will also learn how to display and interpret data using box plots, as well as various other data displays including dot plots, frequency tables, and histograms. In the second part of the statistics unit, students will learn to summarize data using measures of center and variability as well as how to summarize data distributions using appropriate statistical measures. The second statistics formative quiz will be around March 24th with the summative test scheduled for around March 29th. Students in Accelerated Math will take their second statistics quiz around March 16th and will wrap up the unit on March 24th with a summative test.

Science News

Students are currently learning about where water is located on the Earth’s surface.  We are in Unit 4 called Water, Water, Water.  Next week, students will learn how water moves through the water cycle and how limited our freshwater supply is on Earth.  They will be amazed to know that dinosaurs may have drank the same water!  Students will have a formative towards the end of the week of March 13th over the distribution of water and the water cycle.  Then, they will learn about currents, waves, and revisit tides.  The summative of this unit will be at the end of the month before Spring Break.

Social Studies News

Social Studies will continue their JA Biztown/Personal Finance Unit this week. Our students are evaluating different methods for paying for goods and services,  examining the importance of credit and having a favorable credit score, and analyzing the purpose and functions of various financial institutions. Our field trip to the Junior Achievement Center at Alliance Academy High School will be the week of March 20. If you have not submitted your Parent Consent Form, please do so as soon as possible.

Lakeside Thespian Group is performing the hit musical, Matilda Jr., at South Forsyth High School Performing Arts Center on March 24th, 25th, and 26th. Please come out to support our Thespians as they revolt against the menacing Trunchbull and win their class back! 



VEX Robotics:

The Lakeside Kings (VEX) sent three teams to the State Championship on Sunday and came back with 5 awards . In addition, all 3 teams qualified to go to the Worlds VEX Championship in Dallas at the end of April/Beginning of May. Lakeside is sending more teams to State and Worlds than any other middle school.

PE:


As we near towards the end of the quarter, locks and lockers will be turned in from quarter 3 to make room for quarter 4 kids.  If your student does not have PE for quarter, please make sure these lock and lockers are turned in and cleaned out. We will be turning in locks on Tuesday, March 14 and Wednesday, March 15. 


We also have quite a few personal items (sweatshirts, lunch boxes, etc.) in our GYM lost and found. If your child is missing something, please have them come look.
