CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN EDUCATION

Explore current issues in education, analyze areas that need to change, and continue to partner with local schools in creating educational resources and working with students.

Course Information:

Contemporary Issues in Education is the second course in the Teaching as a Profession Pathway. This semester long block course prepares candidates engages students in observations, interactions, and analyses of critical and contemporary educational issues. The candidate will investigate issues influencing the social and political contexts of educational settings in Georgia and the United States and actively examines the teaching profession from multiple vantage points both within and outside of the school. Against this backdrop, the student will reflect on and interpret the meaning of education and schooling in a diverse culture and examine the moral and ethical responsibilities of teaching in a democracy.

Students will take this course as a pre-req for their second semester Internship/Practicum placement.
