- Your 2024 - 2025 S.A.M. Team
As Coordinator of the Mental Health Counseling (MHC) Program, and on behalf of our staff, faculty and the S.A.M. leadership team, I would like to extend a warm welcome as you embark upon your journey with us.
Decades ago, I applied to psychology graduate programs in the U.S. As an international student from Taiwan, I contemplated what my future held. Likewise, during the strange and trying times of 2020, you may also wonder about what lies ahead after you graduate from our MHC program.
Rest assured that here at Fordham we will support you as you chase your dreams, just as we have done with all of our students over the years. To this end, I hope you spend some time getting to know the members of your Fordham community: your academic advisor, faculty, staff, peers and the S.A.M. leadership team. The S.A.M. leadership team has done a marvelous job, as you can see from the information and resources included in the S.A.M. website. In addition to this, we are currently planning even more initiatives and events to benefit all current and prospective students as well as our alumni.
Until I see you all in person, please take good care of yourself so that you can be there for others. If I can be of any help, please do not hesitate to contact me via my internal webpage here or echen@fordham.edu.
Warmly,
Eric
P.S. I prefer to be called “Eric”
"I encourage every minority MHC student at Fordham to apply for this fellowship. The Minority Fellowship Program is one big family inside APA. Since receiving my appointment I have felt welcomed in the MFP community. From the orientations and webinars to the social hours, there are so many opportunities to get involved and take advantage of APA's many resources. The experience of belonging to a group of budding and seasoned career Psychologist and Mental Health Practitioners of color is invaluable. I feel extremely grateful to the Fordham professors who recommended and encouraged me to pursue MFP."
"Every BIPOC should apply to this fellowship! The MFP community is incredibly supportive and will help you become a mental health clinician on the lifelong journey. You will be paired up with a mentor who will be someone you can rely on during the fellowship or even the rest of your career. Also, funding for school is always a plus."
"As an MFP Stay Fellow, I have enjoyed supplementing my studies with the wealth of knowledge I have gained from my mentors and other members of the MFP community. I also look forward to taking advantage of the many professional development opportunities made available to STAY Fellows by way of the APA. I highly encourage current minority MHC students to apply for the fellowship because of how MFP invests in your future as a clinician and connects you with a network of talented and knowledgeable mental health practitioners."
