Yuka is an incoming Counseling Psychology PhD student at Fordham University. She recently graduated from Boston College with a M.A. in Mental Health Counseling and a B.A. in Applied Psychology & Human Development. During her time in Boston, Yuka studied the experiences of pregnancy and childbirth for Asian American transracial adoptees with Dr. Oh Myo Kim, and interned at the Children’s Services of Roxbury, providing In-Home Therapy to culturally-diverse youths and families. Yuka also volunteered at multiple community-based organizations in Japan and the U.S., which fueled her passion for mentorship, activism, and education. Her clinical and research interests focus on exploring the effects of intergenerational trauma and systemic oppression amongst marginalized communities, and she aims to provide socially just and culturally responsive interventions that promote connectedness, healing, and growth. Yuka’s dedication to eliminating barriers to mental health care and her personal experiences navigating identity, culture, and prejudice as a Japanese woman drive her commitment to this work. She is excited to join CCMH, where she hopes to build collaborative relationships with the Bronx community and positively impact immigrant and asylum-seeking families.
