Yasmin is a first-year master’s student in the Mental Health Counseling program at Fordham University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and minors in African American Studies and Spanish from Pennsylvania State University. She is passionate about prioritizing the mental and emotional well-being of marginalized communities with a specific focus on Black and Brown families and individuals with experience in the criminal justice system. Her passion for community wellness inspired her career in education, teaching elementary students in Richmond, California, and her hometown of Brooklyn, New York. It has also driven her desire to become a clinical psychologist whose research and practice is dedicated to increasing family functioning and the quality of life of high-risk individuals dealing with incarceration, substance abuse, and trauma. In her role as Mental Health Counseling Intern, Yasmin hopes to gain valuable experience that she can use to help make positive changes in the lives of families in the Bronx and the lives of her clients in the future.
