Razan is a second-year Master’s student in the Mental Health Counseling program. She is a bilingual licensed occupational therapist, educator, and researcher with extensive experience in rehabilitation sciences and occupational therapy education. She is an Associate Professor in the Programs in Occupational Therapy at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Her work focuses on advancing culturally responsive occupational therapy practices, competency-based education, and the integration of emerging technologies in rehabilitation and health professions training.
Razan has held leadership roles in both academic and clinical settings, previously serving as Program Director and Department Chair at the New York Institute of Technology. Her research explores diversity, equity, and inclusion in occupational therapy, with a particular emphasis on mental health, and the adaptation of assessment tools for culturally diverse groups. She has been instrumental in developing Arabic versions of occupational therapy assessments to enhance their applicability across different cultural contexts.
A fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), Razan serves on the AOTA Board of Directors and has contributed to national initiatives focused on diversity of lived experiences and inclusion in occupational therapy education. She has received multiple accolades for her leadership, including the Excellence in Leadership Award from the Occupational Therapy Association of Morocco and induction into the Virginia Apgar Academy of Medical Educators at Columbia University.
Razan is actively involved in mentoring students and clinicians, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. She is the founder of the Arab American Occupational Therapy Group, an organization dedicated to advocacy, mentorship, and cultural awareness in the field. Her scholarly work includes numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and invited presentations at national and international conferences.
Razan maintains clinical practice in subacute rehabilitation settings in New Jersey and New York where she continues to support patients in rehabilitation settings.
