A food system represents all the elements and key players involved in the production, movement, and consumption of food and, more importantly, the relationships and interactions of these elements and key players over time. In FAC we know that understanding a food system requires constant learning, continuous inquiry, and sustained engagement and we believe that the key to improving the food system is through elegant solutions that rely on key leverage points. In our attempt to understand and map out the food system and seek out these leverage points, our cartographic exercise is informed, section by section, by our activities:
FAC engages in advocacy work by serving as resource speakers and trainers to various key players in the food system covering a wide array of topics in agribusiness. We pride ourselves in our ability to articulate our understanding of the food system to effectively inform different audiences—our farmers, our corporate partners, our government institutions, and even international organizations.
We make sure that our research activities are always either contributing to a developmental objective or that improvements are achieved even as we conduct our research studies. Leveraging on the rich experiences and expertise of our members, FAC is able to generate in-depth and holistic knowledge materials very quickly. Together with our partners in the development and academe sectors, FAC is able to form research teams in most parts of the Philippines.
FAC provides technical advisory on all stages of project management: from planning, to implementation, to exit: In the Planning phases we use the same rigorous discipline we perform in our R4D exercises to ensure that the plans we develop are robust enough to handle the uncertainty of the agriculture space but are able to scale-up realistically based on the behaviors of the intended market. Come implementation phase, we access the operations expertise of our members and, when needed, the products and services of their respective institutions. We always keep the end in mind and make sure that when we exit the project, our clients need not depend on us to achieve long-term success.
