ACTION PLAN
My proposal for social action is to create a platform of the name Asian American Support that works to assist Asian Americans to adjust and thrive in America by spreading awareness about the racist and anti-immigration actions towards them and connecting them with the resources that they need to succeed in America.
There are social and cultural obstacles that challenge the success of my plan. Despite there being social media coverage on Asian-American hate right now, it will be difficult for everyone to continuously focus on this injustice and to spread awareness about it. There will less attention is drawn toward the persisting problems of racism and anti-immigration bias and fewer individuals who spread awareness to help. Connecting this with my engagement, it will become increasingly challenging to spread awareness about injustices toward Asian Americans and resources to help them with less attention from the public. Further, Asian-Americans are culturally not very vocal about their opinions and tend to choose to suffer alone and quietly. It will be difficult to continuously uncover the social injustices done to Asian Americans and bring attention to them. As a result of this, it will be difficult to reach Asian-Americans who require assistance and are severely suffering from racism and anti-immigration bias with my project.
Despite the obstacles, I think my proposal will execute successfully, as I am an Asian-American who has immigrated to the United States at a young age and understands what it is like to be an Asian-American and an immigrant in the United States. With my personal immigration experience, bilingual abilities, and drive, I have confidence that I will be able to execute this proposal and successful launch a platform that will effectively assist the Asian American community and bring to light the racial injustices they have faced that has barred them from their success in America. This is a good contribution and social engagement for this issue at this time because many Asian-Americans are facing heightened xenophobia and racism during the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of the virus originating in China. By engaging with society through the method that I proposed, I will be able to spread awareness and educate society about the truth and the injustice done toward Asian-Americans. In addition, I will be able to help the Asian American community, as I spread information about resources to all through Instagram and a website. The intended outcome of this proposal for social action is to successfully spread awareness and educate about the severity of racism and anti-immigration bias toward Asian Americans in the United States, connect Asian Americans and alike with resources and support, and help Asian Americans succeed and thrive in America.
