TUESDAYS 3-4:30pm
Open to any student in grades 7-12 and do not need experience playing an instrument. Anyone wanting to learn can should sign up.
Instruments for beginners include:
flute
clarinet (Bb only)
saxophone (alto only)
trumpet
trombone
baritone
bass
percussion*
Note: piano is not a wind-band instrument. You would be placed into percussion and work on tuned percussion instruments like glockenspiel/bells, marimba or vibraphone.
This class learns simple tunes using a "method book" which will be supplied. Once a "Concert Bb Scale" is achieved, students can begin to work on fuller band scores at an achievable level. Emphasis is on technique, learning to read music, and playing as a group.
Some students may be able to transfer to Senior Band at 2nd semester. This is up to the Director.
Instrumental Music 10-20-30 earn 5 credits for a full year even as a beginner. For those in grade 12 we can try to make arrangements to "fast-track" to earn 3 20-level and 3 30-level credits in the final year.

This class is more advanced than beginner band. We still use a "method book" to build on what we've learned previously. These also help serve as a group warm-up. We aim to learn several scales and increase and improve our performance ability as well as play fun band scores!
